Since Kawi in their infinite wisdom decided to discontinue the ZZR, it's not like we can jump to another middleweight sporty/tour bike in their lineup, so the question is:
If you sold the ZZR tomorrow, what bike would you get and why?
My rant: The Concours is too big to do much more than tour. The ZX14 does nothing to get me excited, the Versys is ugly IMO, the 650r is okay (not sure why they gave it the Ninja badging though), and all of the SS bikes look virtually the same (250r, ZX6r, ZX10r). The Z1000 is different, but not to my liking. The Er6N is about the only bike in the 2009 or 2010 lineup I really care for. If they offered the ZX10r in the dark blue like the Concours, I'd be on it. I'm not a fan or the orange, and it irks me that Kawi put the same green, white, black paint on the 250, zx6r and the zx10r. Who wants a literbike that people would confuse with its smaller sibling?
I own a ZRX, and would like to see a FI version that retains the old school look, but that likely won't happen.
So here's my take: If tomorrow I had to buy a bike to ride the twisties, commute and tour on, it would be the 2009 Honda Interceptor.
I wish it was a 1000cc bike, but it is an 800cc V4. I think a lightweight 1000cc VFR would be the perfect bike for me. Great handling, great power, and a bit extra for when you are loaded down for a long trip.
From what I know about the Interceptors, they run forever.
Honestly if they offered the silver color stateside I would be at the Honda dealer tomorrow to get one. This year in the US you can get any color you want, as long as it is black
If I go this route, it would be the first time I have ever strayed from the Kawis.
Check out this beaut:

If you were serioius about the VFR then I think you would be wise to check out the Triumph Sprint. I think you may, MAY, have 2nd thoughts about the VFR - as great a bike that it is.
I am kicking around the thought of a second bike to go with my ZZR and looking at a V twin probably a SV 650S. I just can;t justify it just yet, but possibly in a year or so.

I am a huge fan of the SV series but I don't see what it offers you that is different from the ZZR. Yeah it has low-midrange torque that is probably superior to the ZZR but after that these are basically the same bike in my opinion. I guess if you just want another bike then that's cool but if you are looking for a complimentary bike then I think they are too similar.

Mods
Yoshimura RS-3 bolt on, +4 ignition advancer, Dynojet Stage 1 for ZZR, K&N filter, fuel mixture 3 1/4 turns, Iridium plugs, KCA removed
If i sold my ZZR i would go strait to triumph and get myself the Speed Triple. BUT i've never ridden one, therefore i dont know how i would like the handling. Im so used to the ZZR's flickibility, i literally do what i want with that bike when i want to exactly at the time i need it to be done. I've ridden some other bikes and it just isn't the same. I know the Hypermotard would be another consideration because i've had dirtbikes for years. Then of course the Tuono and Brutale...man i really wouldnt be able to choose now that i think about it :-/
I never ride track days so i really have absolutely NO need of being able to do 160. So i would definitely go naked, thats about all i can conclude. lol

I am looking for a different type of bike to have along with my ZZR. I might turn this one into a track only bike once it is paid off, and still would like something else to ride. Plus I'd like to have a V Twin, it is relatively cheap to mod.
It is very different. If it wasn't we would be recommending SS bikes for new beginners instead of a SV 650. The entire powerband is completely different, the braking, handling, etc. Personally, I think it would be fun to ride around downtown in being I do live in a city.
If I sold the ZZR, I would probably get an Aprilia RSV 1000

if i sold my ZZR it would probably be replaced by a zx7 or zx9.
Honestly i love my big comfy couch. My zzr is something i can all out flog at a track day, and by the same token as a first year rider i put 4000km on my bike in a week and a half and while i was sore as hell by the end, it wasn't unbearable.
New bikes look so uncomfortable, and i like being able to go on a road trip with my bike.
realistically my next bike is going to be a track bike but that probably doesnt count.
i like how the ZZR is rare. at least in my small town theres only at most 3 others and a couple ZX6R our body style. but the other 98% of my local bike community is GSX-R's, CBR's, R1/6, etc with a pretty good Duc population. so havin the ZZR is always nice cause its a black sheep around here. but if i were to sell (which im not even thinkin of) or make her a track bike. i would go for another rare breed here. though i have never riden one. i would highly consider Triumph Daytona 675. obviously based on a test ride first. i think it is just pure sex
oh and Farsscf. that new BMW is sick!! everyone i know bags on the odd headlights. i did at first but it grew on me
Pure SEX on Two wheels! MV Augusta F4CC MSRP $120,000.00 Guess I need to win the lottery

The 2005-2008 ZZR600 has one gas tank! It holds at total of 4.8 gallons of which 3.7 is available until you have to switch to reserve to use the remaining 1.1 gallons of gas.
Nice bike I sat on one of those at Moto GP in Indy this year at the BMW demo tent.

I agree with you on the "rare" aspect. I don't see many ZZR's my way either, much less the Oceanic blue one. I go to a bike night on Wednesdays where there can be up to 300 bikes + and I see old Suzuki square tails and such, but never see another ZZR. I've just come across 1, and it was black.
I'm never getting rid of my ZZR; now that I invested some time & money into it; just the same as I'm not ever getting rid of my '02 F150 that I have time & money invested in it. I like having something somewhat older, not the most popular but still looks and operates bad ass.
I do like the look of that Triumph Daytona 675.
In regard to current models, I like the R1. I would also like to get a HD Sportster at some point.
2010 z1000, Triumph Street triple, zrex, or a buell. But I dont like to stray from my kawis so it would prob be the z1000.
