I got this from a lady in marketing at IMS. Basically we can get a good discount if we want to pitch in as a group and get tickets to this year's MotoGP race. Jay (ZZRRocket) and I went last year and despite the weather we got treated to three days of fun and great racing. We even got some riding under our belts.
If enough are interested, I will do the legwork to make this happen. Right now Jay and I are planning to attend, so there's two people already. They are willing to work with us on how to get the tickets out to people. My preference is to have them at 'will call', so you just show up and get your tickets/parking pass/souvenirs. The other way would be to send them to one person, but then that person has to then turn around and resend out to the group. They did seem to be willing to mail directly to the group members if that is our preference.
Red Bull Indianapolis GP 2009 - - - August 30, 2009 (you have 239 days to make up your minds )
Cool things about this years race:
Centennial year at Indy
2nd annual MotoGP at Indy
Cool things if we group buy our tickets:
• Tickets are good for all three days
• Special group block seating
• Group name on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway video board
• Each member of your group will receive a FREE Red Bull Indianapolis GP souvenir
• One-time 10% savings at the Hall of Fame Museum™ Gift Shop for each person in your group
• Personal Group Sales Representative
• Special Backstretch V.I.P. parking for your motorcycle
• Parade lap on your personal motorcycle around the GP course on Monday August 31, 2009
• Personal Group Sales Representative
General admission tickets for 3 days are typically $115 per ticket. For group it is $75. Jay and I sat in one of the turns on a grassy knoll next to the golf course and had great seats (bring lawn chairs). Another plus is that Jay and I sat in the reserved section a couple of times, because the race was not a sell out. No one was checking tickets, but of course if we had been in someone's seats they could have asked us to move. We were in the Ducati club seats LOL Buy the cheap seats, sit wherever you want
Email from IMS:
Good afternoon Ray, My name is Leanne Markins and I work for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Your name was given to me by our Marketing department in regards to the survey you filled out after last year's Red Bull Indianapolis GP race. You mentioned you'd be interested in learning more about group sales and everything we have to offer. I thought I'd send you this email with some basic information and if it's something you're interested in.... great! If not, I'd be more than happy to assist with whatever I can to make sure you get the information you need! Basically, in a nut shell, I deal with groups of 20 or more. If you have at least 20 people in your group or know 20 people planning to attend then you can reserve tickets through me plus get special additional benefits. This year we're offering two souvenirs. A visor with the race logo on it as well as a cinch bag with our centennial logo on it. (We're celebrating 100 years of the facility!) Everyone in your group would receive both of these souvenirs along with a 10% discount voucher good at our Hall of Fame Museum Gift Shop. In addition, we'll put your group name on the video boards. One of the nice things about purchasing tickets through me is utilizing our reservation policy. You can hold tickets... no money down... as long as full payment is received by 60 days out (June 26). Once full payment is received, you're locked in but up until then you can also adjust your ticket order accordingly. Meaning, you can add tickets or drop tickets depending on how many people are in your group. As long as you have at least 20 in your group you're good to go! There are additionally some extra fun perks on the attached that will also come with your order. Now that I've talked your ear off, take a look at the information and see if it's something you or your friends may be interested in. Please don't hesitate to call if I can help you out in any way! Best regards,
Leanne Markins

Note payment is required by June 26th, so we need 18 more souls to commit by then. I'll post a final list of who is in the day before payment, and at that time we need a definite answer. If you say yes at that time, I'll need payment from you since I *have* to reserve at least 20 tickets.
If we have more that do not make the first order, her email states that we can add to it, but we cannot order less than 20.
This is what I propose:
If you want in, I'll update the first post in this thread to reflect that. When it comes time to pay, I can arrange payment. At that time, those who wanted tickets can Paypal me the money for the tickets they wanted.
Jay can attest, I can be trusted, but Paypal offers another security blanket in that they broker the deal and can pull the money back if something were to happen (it won't, but since many of you don't know me I don't expect anyone to blindly trust a stranger)
I'll make sure everyone gets what they ordered if they ship the tickets to me, or if they are 'will call' we will give them a list of names and you will pick up the stuff at the ticket office. Her email did not indicate how they were handling this.
After the order is made, all I ask is that if you cannot go you try and sell the tickets yourself. I don't want to buy 20 or more tickets and then have people backout and leave me with unused tickets to try and sell.
Hoping that some of you guys can meet us at the Dragon, and/or Indy.

Not sure on the hotel, but my guess is they fill up quick and rates go up on that weekend. If you stay 20 minutes out it is likely more reasonable.
I may trailer up this year instead of riding. I know they do have camping closeby, so that would be the cheaper route if you have the stuff.
Even though the parade lap is the day after the race, I'd love to be able to video a lap around the track. Being able to tell your friends you have ridden a lap at the Brickyard is truly something very few people can say.

yeah that would be pretty sweet, i wouldnt have any issue stay 20-45 min away if the price is right. ill look into and see what happens when the time comes near, but as of right now if all goes as planned i will be starting the police academy in june.

^ I took that pic last year at the inaugural race that Jay and I attended. It is my wallpaper in fact
We got to see some great racing, meet some interesting people (Jay - remember the brothers we sat next to and how they had us cracking up on race day?) We also got to endure 60mph winds, lashing rain and got to see some huge vendor tents get trashed by the weather. The race was called early on account of the fact wind was moving barricades and blowing fencing over and debris onto the track. Truly a unique experience to begin with, but the weather made it even more memorable.
We got to see Hayden on top for the first several laps, only to have Rossi pass him up towards the end.
We got plenty of great pictures, got to shop some vendor booths and got to try out some gear, see all the new model year bikes from BWM, Ducati, Kawasaki, and Yamaha (not sure if I saw a Suzuki tent...). One tent had these heavily customized, chromed everything, NOS-equipped, custom painted rides that were cool.
They had autograph sessions too, but we were too busy doing other things. Lots of practice laps, Rookie Cup races, and such to keep things interesting. There are even night time events in Indy - stunt shows, dirt track race, etc. Plenty to do to make a 4 day weekend complete.
