Default Shifting Issue While stopped

I've just noticed that I can't shift more than 1 gear at a time when my bike is still. I couldn't shift all the way down without either rolling the bike after each shift or letting the clutch into the friction zone after each shift. I can hit the shifter as many times as i want but it will only shift 1 gear at a time with out working the clutch or rolling it a bit. Any ideas?

Works perfectly while moving, even slow speeds, but at a stop it won't.

This is the nature of sequential shifters. You can let out the clutch a little or roll forward a little. But -- while they might or might not shift -- they don't work well at a standstill.

I've always been in first before a stop until yesterday and just noticed it. I wasn't sure if it was normal or not.

Yeah, it's been that way with just about every bike I've ridden. I usually do what Jim said, and ease out on the clutch a little bit and that normally does the trick. But it is best to be in neutral or first before you stop rolling.

Plus, your Kawasaki will only upshift from first to neutral at a stop. That's a Kawasaki-specific feature.

I've downshifted into neutral a few times. I wasn't expecting it and revved quite a bit, but I've done it. I can never do it when i'm trying to do it though.

I can downshift into neutral easily. It just takes a light "tap" from second gear and you can get it into neutral.

Yes. That's not what I said, though.

Every bike I've ridden, street and dirt, wouldn't shift more than 1 gear without rocking it or releasing the clutch a little. Just a part of bikes!

yeah and i would think it would also prevent you from having it in the wrong gear and try to take off and stall

Not really -- if you're in 4th, and stop with it in 4th, you have to rock it to get it down to 1st.
