After having issues with both my bikes (one an 06 KLR 650 the other my 07 ZZR), I did some research on ethanol, which is in all of our gas now (even the majors like Exxon, BP, Chevron) now. I suspected ethanol night be the issue, and after reading this I am even more convinced. Riding home in near 100% humidity conditions last night the bike acted very odd and kept trying to die on me.
Looks like boaters have been having issues with it for some time. Only in the last couple of months have I seen 10% ethanol pop up in the local stations. It used to be the smaller 'unknown' stations, then the majors picked it up. Some stations even went as far as to add it, but put the tiniest of stickers on the pumps telling you it has 10% ethanol. The kicker is the gas is the same price as if it didn't have it in there - I'm still paying near $4 a gallon for this garbage.
Check out this except from the Conoco article: "Gasoline containing ethanol will dissolve more water than conventional
gasoline because ethanol dissolves water readily." Great. In the SE US humidity stays at around 80% for the entire summer.
Google 'ethanol' and 'phase separation'. Seems to me that we are doomed to have water in our gas from now on.

Fucking Illinois has had MANDATORY 10% ethanol in all gas for a couple years.
My car runs like shit with it, and I get about 5 MPG less on the interstate.
When I drive to north carolina, buying gas out of state, I get around 31-32mpg.
When I drive to St. Louis or Chicago on Illinois gas, I get 27-28mpg.
It's fucking bullshit. It is also making the price of corn go WAY up, which is really fucking the livestock market, which involves the company I work for.
Ethanol in gas is the WORST idea since hybrid cars. Both are just going to make things worse instead of better.

Ok, while I can understand the ethanol argument, and agree, explain to me how hybrid cars are a bad idea and are making things worse rather than better???
Let me guess...you think global warming is a myth, too?

we ahve the same 10% blend and i have the same experience, when i am able to run a few tank fulls of the good stuff my economy goes up at least 10%. it's like invisible filler. but i have never had any issues in bikes or cars.

can we add some type of additive to the gas in order to counteract the water separation?

That HEET brand stuff supposed to help when there is water in the gas. I have never used it. I drained the tank and put in fresh gas. I still have issues. I think the fuel pump is shot. It is making a loud tapping sound, and if I reach in and hold the thing it is vibrating like crazy.

I can understand your headache with the issue at hand. But does all the profanity in your post make it make more sense or something???

The 2005-2008 ZZR600 has one gas tank! It holds a total of 4.8 gallons of which 3.7 is available until you have to switch to reserve to use the remaining 1.1 gallons of gas.

you and Al Gore can believe in global warming if you want to but its a huge hoax.
have you not heard of all those scientists that have signed a petition or agreement that global warming is not true?
The opinions of dissenting global warming researchers have been severely misrepresented. The idea that the seas are warming is not a theory, but rather is a measured fact and isn't what the dissenters deny. The debate is over whether it is abnormal/excessive or just part of the cyclic nature of the planet and whether or not it's man-made.
Either way, Ethanol was a horrible alternative and we've known that since well before it's adoption. Financially and envinronmentally ethanol will fail and I hope it's sooner rather than later.

I think we had one of the coldest winters in many years ( not here in Texas) and there were headlines of Global Cooling.
Reason for the propaganda of Global Warming is to blame man for it and its the basis of the Kyoto Treaty which is a wealth distribution agenda. It would tax rich nations that create the most carbon emissions by having them buy millions of dollars worth of carbon credits from countries that dont use as much. Its a socialistic/ communistic plan.
The President of Checkloslavakia just arrived in the U.S. to debate Gore over the issue of Global Warming and Gore conveniently refused to debate.
All Global Warming is propaganda for wealth redistribution.
Weather and above ground temperatures aren't the measures used for global warming / cooling. It's based on ocean / icecap temperatures and masses. Having a cooler winter doesn't mean that the seas followed suit.
The temperature of whether fronts is wildly unpredictable and can't be used to track global trends. It's always funny when people try to use a cold winter or summer to say "See pff, global warning, what a joke". Whether fronts and above ground temperatures are NOT the measures of global warning/cooling.
The oceans ARE warming, but the questions is: Does it matter? Is it significant and permanant or just the ebb and flow of the planets environtment? I personally think that a few degrees over a few decades isn't something to be concerned about. I also don't believe that we can assume that this is all because of human impact.
