Hey guys,
I'm a new rider and my '05 zzr600 was my first bike. I had it for about a week when i bit it on some gravel in a parking lot ... of all places. I was going about 5-10 mph, but pretty much everything that bolts on the left side of my bike needs to be replaced.
Does anyone have any tips on where i can get some good prices on these items? I've looked on e-bay and some other sites, but I was curious if anyone knew of some reputable places that had cheap parts.
I need a lower left ferring, front LH peg bracket, handlebar clutch lever, left mirror, left signals, and i cracked the cover to the oil (the bolt on, finned cover on the LH side).
Also, any tips for things I should ahve looked at before I start it back up and get on?
Hey gravel welcome to the forums. I'm not sure about he replacement part other than e-bay but I know there are some guys on here that have had to replace plastics and gotten them from other places.
The cracked cover for the oil is the stator cover. My buddy had the same thing happen on a slow laydown. Those things don't seem to take much to crack. He snapped a bolt while trying to take it off and ended up going to the dealer to have it replaced. Good luck with the repairs.
Check with local bike salvage shops if you have such a thing close to you. Lots of time you can get good prices and great service from those guys. When I was riding 17 years ago the same guys were working at that shop. Not many dealerships can claim such tenured employees.
As for things to check before riding off after a crash:
Yourself - make sure you are not seriously injured. It should go without saying, but with the adrenaline flowing you may not realize it at first.
The bike - check for where the bike is - is it safe to leave it there? If in a road get out of the road asap.
Check for leaking fluids - oil/gas/coolant.
Check the brake reservoirs - are they between the lines?
Check the frames for obvious cracks.
If the levers are damaged, are they still functional?
Check the lighting - do the lights still work?
Check to see if the bike will start, and listen for any unusual sounds. It is not unusal for a bike to be flooded after a get off like that.
If bike is started, watch for anything usual - change in idle, engine missing, engine sounds, charging issues, temp issues.

thanks for the heads up on the terminoligy scoot, i'm a bit new to this and wasn't sure what to call it.
the lower front isn't shattered, but it's scraped up pretty badly so I'm thinking I may look for a new one. I've only seen unpainted ones on e-bay for about $250, but I'd rather buy a prepainted one (is that possible since the 2005 was only one color?). Does $250 sound right?
The rear plastic though just has a thumb sized spot on it that was scraped, maybe i could touch that up. Is it hard to touch up paint and make it look okay?
that should get you to a BLUE left side ferring. for 216.
I have repaired plastic and let me tell you what it DOES save you money but when done properly and after buying all the esential stuff you end up dropping like $80. And ALOT and i mean ALOT! of work.

thanks grimy. I'm going to try and get all this stuff ordered tomorrow. I'll do some before and afters. Thanks for everyone's help; I'm new to these forums and you guys are great.
aside from all the good tips the guys here have given you, in the future just try to be VERY mindful of your surroundings. Its hard to avoid certain things like that and it does get the best of us from time to time. Hopefully you werent hurt, and this will help you be a little more mindful of what to lookfor when riding. Unlike a car where you can get away with not paying attention some of the time, you have to LOOK at EVERYTHING on a bike. Trust me on this, ALWAYS look to whats 5-10 seconds ahead of you coming up, and if you are unsure proceed with the utmost caution. Hope this helps, get that thing fixed up and ride on, and good luck!
I just hate throwing my fairing out. It's in good shape, not cracked or anything, just scratched up in an area. EmpireGP looks good, but I think between paying for the work and shipping, i'd probably be better buying a new fairing and trying to sell my old one cheaply.
I looked at some of the topics regarding repainting panels and it's way above my head to do it properly.
Edit: Okay found the camera - I've already taken most of it apart, but you'll get the idea. Like I said, it was a slow wreck, but it still hurt the wallet (luckily that was all).

I agree with Rayzzr...doesnt look that bad. Take the money you were going to spend on fairings and swap out those terrible Dunlop's for a decent set of tires and some Frame sliders.
