Default New ZZR smelling like Gas

My wife has noticed that our garage is smelling like gas and you can smell it mostly around the gas filler on the tank of her new 08 ZZR. I have noticed that sometime you can hear a high pitched sound of air around the cap like a vaccum. Anyone have this problem? Anything I can check or just mention it to the dealer when I take it back for it's 600 mile check?

Thanks!

every once and a while ill hear a pressure release sound coming from my tank. I dont think its anything to worry about, just air escaping. as for the gas smell, unless you see a wet spot under the bike, or see gas dripping on the frame, i wouldnt worry too much about it.

No gas anywhere but the smell is pretty strong. I've had one bike or another in my garage for several years and never smelled gas before so I thought it was weird. I'll keep an eye on it.

If it annoys you too much, just open your gas lid and it will stop... I had that problem, still do, with my ZZR and it goes away. As for the gas smell...that is strange, and I don't know what to say on that.

Take some WD-40 and give the filler cap lock cylinder a shot of it, then insert and remove the key a few times that should take care of the issue. The reason your smelling gas is it's building a little too much pressure in the tank "won't hurt anything" with the vent sticking.

depending upon how well sealed your garage is if the bike sits there it will smell because youve got the tank constantly breathing and venting as well as carbs full of gas. My shed has that serious ass weather proofing on it and if the bike sits a couple days it gets the gas station fill up smell. However now the place WREAKS of gas because i spill an entire tank of it on the unfinished wood floor...oops but yeah on another note it should be fine

Florida equals hotter temperatures and gasoline has to vent as it expands from the heat. The high pitch sound you hear is that pressure that has built up releasing itself. Nothing wrong with the bike. Is this your first bike? If it is perhaps you should read the owners manual before operating the bike. It will answer many questions that you might have about the bike. Anyone here is glad to help you out including myself. Your question about pressure equalization leads me to believe that your a newbie at the motorcycle game.

No, not new to motorcycles. I've ridden on and off for 34 years and I know they build up pressure and vent. I've just never heard one sound quite like this before. I wouldn't have even thought about it had it not been for the smell of gas. I'd rather be safe than sorry and knew if it was a problem someone on here probably would have some experience with it.

Thanks for the information.

They had 'the wheel' back then? let alone motorized bikes? I'm only a little ways behind you, I'm going on ... a year. Well not quite yet. It is just so addictive!

Yes but at first it was a little rough going with the wheel being new and all
