Default Newbie Questions: Oil and Air Filter Change

Hello

I have limited experience with motorcycles. I just bought a K&N air filter. I was reading the manual that came with the ZZR. I have to remove the gas tank to get to the air box. When taking the tank off will I have to drain the tank? Does anyone have any tips to make this process easier? How often should I remove the K&N to recharge for best performance? If I am changing the oil filter which side do I remove? Is putting the side back on the bike difficult? Any tips?

I installed the new headlights. I put the silverstar ultras 9003 in the bike. I have noticed a considerable change in night riding and people seem to see the bike better. As an added bonus it helps to be able to see the deer so you can dodge them. Riding in the country is a wonderful experience sometimes LOL...

Thanks,
Nathan

To remove the tank...

1. remove rear seat
2. remove front seat
3. remove 4 bolts (2 front, 2 by battery)
4. remove small hose by battery going into fuel tank
5. turn fuel valve to OFF and unscrew the handle
6. lift tank from front only, to reveal what's beneath
7. remove hose going from fuel valve to fuel tank
8. lift off fuel tank... some fuel will come out but very very little... as you lift it off, just keep it tilted towards the back of the bike, so front side higher, then just spill the fuel away from the bike

To change the oil, you don't have to remove the fairings, but if you want to, you should remove the left one (if sitting on bike, left one)... I simply turn the front wheel to the right, revealing the fuel filter and it can be accessed pretty easily from behind the front wheel... I use aluminum foil under the filter to guide the oil that spills out into a pan under the bike...

Hope that helps
