Deals Gap 3,4,5 July
I will be going to Deals Gap North Carolina on July 3,4,5. This will be my second of three trips to the Gap this year. I'm planning a week long trip October 7-14, which should be a very scenic trip due to the leaves changing in the Smokey Mountains. I will be arriving around noon on the 3rd and do some riding of the area that afternoon. Planning to ride a very large loop of the area on the 4th and then pack it up and head home on the morning of the 5th. I will be staying at the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort at Deals Gap. Anyone here that interested is more than welcome to join me and my friend Doug. If you have never been to Deals Gap and the surrounding area it's definitly well worth the trip. Great roads+nice people+lots of bikes= lots of fun

We will have to try and make plans for next spring if you would like. I know a really cool motorcycle camp ground to stay at that's really cheap. And the owners Fred and Mo are very nice people. When I was there in mid May, the temps were 68 to 72 during the day and mid to high 40's at night with very low humidity, which made excellent riding weather and sleeping weather. Every night I was there Fred and Mo cooked for all of the guests that were staying at the Kickstand Lodge. http://www.kickstandlodge.com/ Fred even cooked breakfast for everyone each morning around 8am, then I would take off for the days riding and return each evening around 7'ish for dinner and beers, after a very long but fun day of riding, then they would light camp fire each night. Everyone staying there was either in bed by 10'ish or stayed up to drink around the fire and talk and tell jokes. Everyone was lots of fun and very nice. Overall it was a very nice time. Something to think about for future plans. Keep it in mind I sure we can work something out. I am going again in October of this year and more then likely the next time I go will be in mid May of 2007. Here's a picture of the view out of the cabin that I stayed in. Fred keeps the grass mowed very nicely

Well I had another great trip to Deals Gap, I got back this afternoon after sitting in traffic at a stand still on I-75 North just south of Lexington Kentucky for nearly 2 1/2 hours because of a bad traffic accident that had taken place. My buddy SurfinGator and I did a run of the Dragon on Monday and rode Rt 28 out to 74. It was very hot and humid this time. On the 4th we meet Chuck for breakfast. It was nice to meet you Chuck. The Gator and I headed out for the day. From the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort we went 129 south to Robinsville to get us onto the Cherarola Skyway, after arriving in Telico Plains TN, we got on to Rt 360 North over to Madisonville and then we got out on 411 towards Vonore, and headed South on Rt 72 which took us back to Rt 129 and back down the Dragon. It was about a 145 mile loop of the area, with every one kind of curve you could think of. We even found a really great straights on Rt 72 South with no one around we blasted for a few minutes at about 130 mph, until the road be became curvey again. After we got back to Deals Gap we got a bite to eat and then I helped my friend load his bike. He was going to stay until Wednesday but had some things to take care of, so he left Tuesday afternoon. So around 6:45 pm there was no traffic on the Dragon at all. So I made a hot run down to the over look. I had never timed myself before so before I headed back from the over look I checked my clock, it said 7:35 pm when I pulled out to head back and when I pulled into the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort my clock read 7:48 pm. That's a 13 minute run, not to awfully bad I guess. I really pushed it as hard as I could to see what kind of time I could make. Next time I go I will have new Michelins on the bike which should really help. The place was a zoo on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday after I got done with loading the bike back on the trailer and got showered I headed to Robbinsville to get something to eat and watch the fireworks that were shot off from the Robbinsville High School at 10 pm. Then I headed back to get some rest. I got in the bed at around 11:30 pm. It wasn't 5 minutes after laying done that I heard this clanking sound like metal hitting metal, I had remembered someone saying something about a bear sighting about 1 1/2 miles away up the Gap, so I thought maybe it was a bear trying to get into these peoples bar-b-que grill. But to my surprize there was some guy that I had never seen before with a metal gas can and he was headed right for my truck and trailer, my bike was covered up with a tarp because it had began to rain earlier, so I watch this asshole go straight for my bike on the trailer and lift the tarp like he was getting ready try and steal gas from my bike or something, so by this time I'm pissed, so I put on my shoes and ran out the door, I said, Hey man what are you trying to do to my bike, you need to back off my bike before I beat your ass, once this guy realized that someone had been watching him and was on to what he was doing, his whole tone of voice changed and he started called me sir and stuff, This guy wanted gas for his car, and was willing to damage someone else property to get it. He was a weird looking guy, and acted as if he had been drinking or was on drugs of some kind. I don't know and I don't care. You don't roll up into a biker camp and try to steal gas. I'm not a violent person, but this guy was wearing my patience very thin with his, "I've got money story", the idiot wanted me to wake up people that were sleeping and ask them if they had any extra gas. I said to this guy, Hey man your really starting to piss me off, you need to leave right now or I'm going to walk over to that pay phone at the Deals Gap gas station and call 911. This guy got in his car and left. He's lucky I didn't drag his little skinny ass out in the woods. Earlier that night I had been talking to two guys that rode there bikes all the way from Ontario, that's hard core man, one of the guys was riding a 1973 Shovelhead Harley, very cool bike if you like that sort of old school kind of stuff, anyway, they guys were really nice, they said that they heard me talking to that guy that was trying to steal gas. They both said that guy had allot of nerve coming into a biker camp and trying to steal gas or whatever else he could find that wasn't tied down or locked. This is the first time I have ever heard any kind of trouble in all of my trips to Deals Gap. This morning before I left I was talking to the two guys from Ontario, and the guy on the 73' Shovelhead says to me, what's up that hill?. I said that's the Dragon, you know the 318 curves in 11 miles. He said that they were going to ride it. It was about 8 am and it had rained really hard at about 5:30 am this morning, so I new the road would have allot leaves and stuff on it. As I was leaving I was maybe 4 or 5 miles up the Dragon and I passed those two guys from Ontario, they looked like that were enjoying themselves, especailly since no one was out except them. It was a very quiet morning at the Gap this morning. All in all it was a good trip. I had a great time and I'm looking forward to my October trip. Ride Safe, Jay

Sound like a Great Trip. We were up there the week before you. Plan on going back about the same time you are later on. Perhaps, we'll see you up there. I still have my backup bike if the other one's not out of the shop by then. Hopefully it will be though.
