Default "To re-jet or not to re-jet" that is the question

I have a technical question regarding re-jetting

I just ordered the Yoshimura RS-3 Carbon Fiber Bolt-on for my '06 ZZR. I've seen some discussion of whether or not to re-jet post a new slip on exhaust installation. What are your thoughts/suggetions?

Cheers,
Mr Dude

Rejetting is not neccessary with just a bolt-on pipe. If you were to replace your whole system then it is a must. I have put on a SS Muzzy bolt-on, on my '06 ZZR, and noticed a little more pop and a louder, greater sound. Haven't really noticed any decrease in performance. You can rejet it though, if you want to equalize some "flat spots".

You can gain much by re-jetting with a slip on. Unless you know what you are doing have a shop jet it; just put the slip on and get the right jet kit and let them get it right. Keep in mind with a nice jump in performance you will lose some fuel economy.

You can if you want, you will have some fuel milage loss but you will get more power. From all I have read and know you do not have to re-jet with a bolt-on. I have an Akrapovic bolt on and my bike runs great. I did install and K&N filter when I added the exhaust. No flat spots, no problems or complaints.

I have asked the same question to a couple of different service people at different dealerships. And they have all given me the same answer. Unless you are going to install full system. Re-jetting is not necessary. The only thing that I have done is shim the carb needles, installed a K&N air filter, and the Yoshimura RS-3 Bolt-on.

Go to your local Radio Shack and buy a multi pack of washers for about a $1.99 Part # 64-3022 Use the #4 washer, which is about 3 mm in diameter to shim your carb needles. Only use one for each needle.

Or you could go with a Flo-Commander http://flo-commander.com/index2.html

I never said it was necessary, the better answer is that you don't only gain by jetting with a full system, you can do a lot with a slip on and a rejet but you definitely don't need to as 99% of people with slipons don't

Well it's been 250+ miles without re-jetting (post RS3 carbon fiber installation) and the bike is running great. Didn't notice any significant change is gas mileage. There is a slight back pressure at 5 to 6000 rpms in 2 gear, however, it's barely noticable. Other than that, the pipe and bike sounds great and performing as expected.

Cheers
