Default K&N = slower?

Anyone installed a K&N and felt by the ole butt-o-meter that you had actually lost some power? Maybe iut's psychological because it's hard to imagine that oily hunk of gauze making more power than the factory piece of molefuzz they call a filter.

The stock Kawasaki foam filter is actually better for your bike unless you have a full system that can use the extra air the K&N puts through, and a rejet.

I would have to disagree with you on that one.

Before installing the filter, Tissen made several dyno runs with the stock configuration to get a baseline for comparison. In stock form, our long-term ST1300 belted out 111.7hp at 7750 RPM on K&N's Dynojet. After installing the K&N replacement filter, we were amazed to see peak power jump to 117.74hp at 7500 RPM, a solid 6hp gain. The ST1300 picked up power everywhere, gaining 2.5hp at 2500 RPM, 2.8hp at 4000 RPM, and 5.2hp at 5500 RPM.

A K&N (or separates) used to be a must-have mod. However today, most modern airboxes don't benefit from the upgrade. When they do lose -- and its not that uncommon -- they seldom lose more than a horsepower.

The main or at least AN advantage of the K@N is its ability to be cleaned and re-used almost indefinately. It worth the money for that alone.... With that said, I have BMC's in my ZX12R because I think its a better filter than the K@N is...

The 2005-2008 ZZR600 has one gas tank! It holds at total of 4.8 gallons of which 3.7 is available until you have to switch to reserve to use the remaining 1.1 gallons of gas.

I thought an ST1300 is a Honda, last I checked we were talking about Kawasakis. The K&N might rock for a Honda (I know my F3 benefited from a K&N,) but every bike's OEM airbox/filter has its own peculiarities which means you cannot make generalisations and take a completely different bike and show the dyno sheet and assume it will be the same with another brand.

I know this because I went through this on my ZX-6R.

Could be, but that's not what I said. Read it again. More likely the ST has a less well developed airbox. That's what a K&N was always good for.

I tell you what. I will put my bike on the Dyno with and without a K&N and if there is a horse power gain I will post the Dyno sheet. How does that sound? Deal?

Sure, why not, we are all here to learn. I bet everyone with a ZZR/ZX-6R could benefit from taking a look at that sheet.

I would be interested in seeing that myself. I put a K&N filter in mine when I added the bolt on Akra exhaust and I can feel a little more pep from the combination. Nothing to brag about though.

Can't tell anything about one mod, when you do two mods. And the butt dyno error rate is notoriously tied to the amount of money spent on the mod. Lastly, louder almost always feels more powerful, whether it is or not.
