New ZZR600
Just here to say hi, bought my first bike last Saturday and it happened to be a 2006 Kawasaki ZZR600. I haven't rode it much, weather been kinda cold here, but have managed to put 22 miles on it. I am still learning how to ride, took the beginner rider course last Sept. so I am still kinda scared of it, but I will say it really fun and the feeling on it is great. Anything I need to know about this bike would be appreciated, Thanks. Chris.

HOLY CRAP! Your first bike is a ZZR600? Are you in-freakin'-sane!
Man, that's a race bike - it's not a beginner bike. But, now you're stuck with it, I guess. Whatever you do, just BE CAREFUL! Don't get too overconfident after a few rides - that is the kind of bike that's gonna get you killed if you "f" up even this much!
Take it easy - be careful, and wear your gear!

Wow, that is quite a chioce you made for a first motorcycle.
Get frame sliders and I would even recommend removing the fairings for awhile.
It might not sound appealing to take them off but once you figure out what it will cost to replace them you might see my logic.
Be careful and don't hit the throttle too hard, you are in over your head!
Wear a couple thousand dollars worth of gear too! Good luck.

Didn't Kawi rebage the old zx6r as the zzr? If so you have a kick arse bike. A bit much for a first but I won't say you're nuts for it. Being 29 is why. Take it easy wear your gear and at first ride when there isn't much traffic out.

Ya, thats a lot of bike. Close to twice the horsepower of my 500 and IT scared the shit out of me the first time I got on it. Wear good gear and take it easy.

Thanks for you words of advise. I have been fairly careful so far and I do wear my armor. I can't really get it up that fast yet, since I am still breaking the bike in. 0-500 miles, not over the 4,000 rpm mark, and 500-1,000 miles not over the 6,000 rpm mark. Been riding it through the neighbor hoods and going to take back roads to work when it warms up a little. Anyone find some nice flush mounts I can get for the front stalks.

Yeah just be careful if it is still cold. Let your tires warm up before you start tooling around too fast.

I would say don't sweat the blings like flush mounts yet. The biggest improvement you can make right now is to you. Replace parts as you break them, you will likely drop it and break the stock lights then replace them. Just educate yourself and ride ride ride

ApriliaSL, you are correct... the ZZR 600 05/06 is a re-badged ZX6 00-02 (pre 636.)
By the way, sweet ride man! One of these days I will have me a nice Italian machine!
Out in SB, where do you ride? Maybe we can do a central coast run up to Monterey one weekend as it gets warmer.

As far as accessories go check 58 cycle and parts 411, Dennis Kirk is good to deal with as well. Words of advise are same as everyone else...becareful, dont get confident too fast and wear good gear!

I am being fairly careful. I have been riding in local light traffic neighborhoods, it feels great riding one of these things. Wish I wanted one back when I was like 18 or 19 instead of now. Either way it is really fun and I appreciate your words of wisdom.

Congrats on the new bike. Best part is that spring is nearly here around the Great Lakes, I can't wait to put some miles on.

Congrats on the new ride. Like everyone has said be careful. I'm not of those that assume you will undoubtable drop the bike, though anyone could! Also, get plenty of good gear, just in case. I've had my ZZR since Oct '04 and have put 7800 miles on it without incident. Lucky? Some may say. Whatever, just be careful with you throttle control and "respect" the bike!
btw, yes the ZZR is my first street bike, too. I've had 10+ years of dirtbike experience and took the MSF course before I bought my ZZR.

+1
If you dont drop your first bike once or twice you arent learning anything. I would invest in some sliders though to minimize damage.
