Question How difficult is a ZZR600 to work on?

A couple of weeks back I treated my curiosity and visited the Detroit International Motorcycle Show. My mission was to see if I could decide on which bike could perhaps replace my current GS500:

Of primary interest were two of the bikes featured by Motorcycle Consumer News December'05 issue, "Tasty Leftovers" -- no doubt you're aware of the PDF's on their Model Evaluation web page.

I fell in lust with the ZZR600 they had on display:

but on closer examination, questions about maintenance came to mind. I like to get involved with the bike for typical winterizing actions (drain float bowls, spray fogging oil in the cylinders, etc) and normal care and feeding (oil and air filter changes). Sure seemed more cramped in there than the old GS500, but couldn't tell for sure without peeling the fairing off.

So I thought I'd ask you guys what your experiences are.
  • What's your hardest maintenance job?
  • Valve clearances difficult to do?
  • I've already learned that oil changes are a piece of cake, but what about the other things within a typical home handyman's ability?
