Default oil leak! help

hey guys,

just wondering if anyone has had this problem and how do I fix it. I have an oil leak coming from the back of my countershaft sprocket. I haven't taken it apart yet, or even had time to look at the repair manual, so just wondering how or if I can fix this. thanks in advance.....

are you sure its oil? it very well could be built up chain wax/lube. it builds up in that area and turn black...then when it heats up (after a ride or what not) it becomes thinner and looks EXACTLY like oil, even can drip onto the floor but then it hardens and becomes this black/tar/sticky stuff. I would clean the area really REALLY good, remove the counter shaft cover and clean it as well...clean everything including the chain with kerosine. now keep an eye on it. don't use any spray on lube. keep the chain clean of it for awhile. You don't need the spray on lube anyway. the chain (if Oring or X ring) is pre lubed from the factory. I never use spray on lube. I just keep it clean with WD40 and a clean shop rag. my chain always looks like new and last even longer. I got this idea from a bunch of riders in my club and though I didn't believe them at first I do now! anyways there is a good chance its not an oil leak, but then again maybe there is...the only real thing to do is clean every thing anyways to determine where it IS leaking if it is. I bet its not though.

Amish,
your absolutley right! I do use chain wax and it does look exactly like oil after it heats up. I would get a drop or 2 on the floor right after a ride sometimes. I'm not gonna pull the cover yet, I only have a few more weeks of decent riding left and this winter I'm gonna put new chain/sprockets on anyway. why do things twice. thanks for the help and putting my mind at ease.
