Default need some ideas on possible problem w/ 7R

hey guys, Beware..."long thread"

well I took my bike off the road back in October 05. the bike was running fine when I parked it. I start it up and let it run till it's hot once every two to three weeks. I ran the old gas out and a couple weeks ago drove it to my local gas station and put a couple buck in it. It ran fine then too.

Tonight I went to start it up and it just didn't want to start. it sounded like it was flooded or something. sometimes it felt like it wanted to start but it just wouldn't. Then I could smell the gas. so I let it sit a few minutes (after about 10 minutes straight trying to get it running) After a bit it still did not want to start so I shut the gas off and let it turn over constantly until it wanted to start then I flipped the gas switch to on. It started.

so I let it warm up...sounds fine. Once it's warmed up I grab some throttle a few times and it sounds great. I ride down to the gas station so I can put some air in the tires and it's running awesome then all of a sudden it starts to feel like it's starving for gas or like it's not firing correctly. no back fires at all so I don't know if it's the latter but by the time I pull into the gas station it wants to shut down. trying to give it some throttle and it's just dying...then it's dead. It again refuses to start. just turns over.

I let it sit for about 5 minutes and try again. no go but it sounds like it wants to start. I let it sit about another five minutes (I'm already thinking I might be pushing it home) when it fires up. It again sounds very strong. I rip down the road and the engine is purring...I rapping it out...revs high..tearing down the road, sounds and feels great. I pull into my garage and let it idle. After about 4 minutes just idleing I go to give it some gas and it stutters. AGAIN it feels like its starving for gas. Seems that the warmer the engine the more drastic this effect is. Again it dies off and doesn't want to start.

so here I am trying to figure out whats wrong. Could it be spark? Gas? Carbs?

One month before I parked it for good I did a tune up. new plugs, clean filter and fresh oil and oil filter. Could the spark plugs have gone bad from sitting? Usually if plugs are bad you will get some back firing but its not at all.

Is it possible that the carbs got gummed up? though it was running fantastic a couple times tonight only to run poorly after the engine was hot.

I'm not sure, so I thought I'd ask here.

the more I think about it the more I think it's the plugs. The plugs were new back in Sept. 05. Maybe from sitting all this time one of them went bad? maybe more of them? I'm gonna swap them out this weekend and see what happens.

any other ideas are welcome though.

Was your tank full of gas when you let it sit? did you use any gas additive like stabil? If I had to guess I would say that you need to clean those carbs. It doesn't take much trash or gum to clog up pilot jets and if it's floating in your carb bowls and getting sucked up could cause your problem.
