Default Thinking about gearing......

I've been thinking about going +2 in the rear and -1 in the front to squeeze a little more torque outta my baby. I rode my buddy's Ninja 9 with the same setup and it seemed like the front end was kinda hard to keep down, but the time off the line was definately improved. Anybody seen this setup on a ninja 7 and if so what did you think of it?

I'm -1 up front and the bike performs well... the front end still stays down and I like it that way.

I had the -1+2 and she was great off the line, but I lost alot of top end so I just went back to -1. I can't get her off the ground for the life of me no matter what the set up. lol.

I'd say top end is now around 155-160 mph.

I look at it like when are you going to go 160 mph? I would rather have the acceleration where I live because the most I can get up to around here is about 140 anyways with out have to turn or have a heavily trafficed street. I had -1/+2 when I bought it and it was nice but now at 15/45 and loving it

Stock p1-p6 are 16/43 about 99% sure about this but who cares most times if ur changing gearing u go -1/+2 and that was huge diffrence on my bike with stock 16/43 gearing

What brand sprockets are you using (ie. AFAM, Renthal, Vortex)? I am going to go -1 upfront for sure, possibly +2 rear but keep the stock chain. My 03 only has a little over 6k miles, so no need to go to a 520 yet. Kneedraggers have both AFAM and Renthal sprockets. Is one better than the other? I currently considering the Renthal 15T upfront/45T rear. I am not really feeling the Vortex since it is aluminum.

I am using Vortex simply because of the price of the sprockets and chain together I couldn't pass up. But I am still watching the rear sprocket closely because of the fact that it is aluminum.

Yeah, there's a guy on another forum I frequent who is local (MI) that went with a Vortex on the rear of his 9R. He lost all the teeth on his sprocket. I will admit that other factors play a part (ie. alignment) but aluminum is a soft metal and susceptible (sp?) to damage with ease.

I have the Renthal rear sprocket and a AFAM front sprocket with a DID 520 chain conversion. Down (-1) in the front. Been runnin' that combo for years now.

i absolutely love my 15/45 set up, the front end is a little light at times, but who cares this thing takes off like a rocket!!!!!!! the top end loss doesn't really bother me either, i mean 160, 171 they are both pretty f-ing fast, lol
