path to 7r nirvana
so i've got an '87 750r. i'm loooking for inspiration. i understand that the mikunis are a better bore than the keihins...wise choice? i'm looking to turn it drag-bike because of the geometry (not good for a course track, i hear). swing arm extension/lowering links (does any company make them for an '87?). these are just examples...any inspiration is good; body, mechanic, electrical.

is that so? i've just started riding and haven't had the chance to take the bike to anything but a strip, once. i had heard that upon reaching maximum lean, the 750r's lack of tire width and upper-bike gravity make for an uneasy corner. or in relation, when compared to modern rocket c.o.g. designs, older bikes are less predictable in turns. i can say that it definitely performs like a beast in higher rpm.

i have my 7R so low in corners that I'm riding on the EDGE of the tire. not the strip of tread before running out of tire, BUT running out of tire and riding on that 90 degree edge before riding the side wall. this bike HUGS. nuff said.
I have pics to back up what I just said, of my tires and how low I get.

s'all good. i believe you, but i'd like to see those pictures anyhow; i haven't even had the chance to corner with it yet so i can't talk from experience. i'm working bottom to top (getting the bike factory spec, then adding -insert mod-). right now it starts up perfect, and i'm working on replacement of the essentials (coolant jug, new l/h control, windscreen).

Not sure of the supply of parts for an 87, have you checked into adding updated, like 94, or 96-03 yr parts to it?
AM, this is an 87, before the wide tire came out for most sportbikes like the 6" rear on the 96-03 bikes.

yeah, that's more along the lines of what i meant i guess. i had thought about modern parts--for instance, fitting an rs-3 pipe--but i decided to keep it as "87" as i could.
i am however considering fitting a more modern coil/hydro suspension instead of the old absorber/hydro assembly. i've also been told that it's possible to fab up some new brackets to compress the hydraulic, but i imagine it's not safe. i want it low when i find an applicable swingarm kit anyhow.
