Default Come to stop - so does engine

I'm sure others have had this problem, and before I dive into my carbs I wanted to see if there's a quick surefire way to rid myself of this issue.

Every morning when I hop on to go to work, I get to the stop sign at the end of my street (maybe 2 blocks), and as I roll to a stop (whether using engine to slow or all brake), the engine consistently shuts off. This is regardless of how long I've let the bike warm up.

Now, with the colder weather, I've noticed that this happens more and more even after this initial 'first stop' in the morning. I rode about 7 miles the other day to come to a stop and have the damn thing shut off on me again. This has just developed in the past couple of months, and I'm not sure what exactly could be causing this.

Any way to fix this?

start with basics
fully charged battery
full tank of gas
proper choke action, make sure the choke linkage shaft is getting a full stroke and staying in the out position.
ignition malfunction
fuel contaminated, fuel can be dirty with dirt or water, or can change chemically if allowed to sit for extended time.drain tank and float chambers.
intake air leak.ckeck for loose carburator to intake manif0old connections, loose or missing vacuum hoses or tops.
carburetor malfunction
proper engine idle speed settingturn idle screw until engines idles at specified rpms.

etc.. my .02cents..ymmv

i will say 1100rpm for a stock setup or up to 1300rpm, if you do some tinkering with the engine..as a caution, the Kawasaki Motorcycle Service Manual states " do not open or close the throttle excessively. the accelerator pump can flood the engine and cause starting difficulty.

I've actually done quite a bit of tinkering, which I'm sure has contributed to this problem somewhat. I'm very anal about making sure all tubes are reconnected, carb / cylinder head seals as tight as possible, etc....

El Rancherito: I live in a pretty warm climate and ride the bike at least twice a week, so battery / gas gone bad / and all other malfunctions attributable to the bike sitting for a long time I'm not too worried about. Although I could be getting shitty gas at my local pump: I hate ARCO!!!!

The choke works fine: I've got about 20 mm of slack when its completely in the off position. Idle is set to between 1200 - 1300, I just synced, tuned and cleaned the carbs about a month ago thinking that might help - it did, but only very little. I've rejetted for the colder weather to make sure I'm good-to-go in the A/F ratio. I also pulled out the plugs the other day and ground the electrode clean & regapped, which has made a difference.

I had something happen to me the other day that freaked me out a bit: I was merging from one freeway to another on a tight turn ramp that I like to burn around because its so nice. I was slowing pretty rapidly approaching the turn and downshifting and as I entered the turn I realized the engine had shut off - right as I was letting the clutch out into 2nd gear. Engaging the clutch and gassing turned it back on of course, but the sudden supply of power to the rear wheel put me into a slide for about 10 ft till I somehow managed to get traction again. I couldn't believe it had done that just while downshifting.

This is getting to be a more serious problem than I thought.
