I read in another place that these Avons grip outstandingly well on the outsides of the tire, but the inside compound is a little bit harder. That only poses a problem in nasty weather.

You say you have 'cupping' of the front tire. Have you checked your tire pressure lately? What psi are you running?
Secondly, do you have the suspension set up correctly for your weight/riding style?
Third, is your wheel balanced correctly? Is the wheel-weight missing?
Reason being, is the cupping is coming from the tire bouncing off the ground. I think you might have a suspension set-up problem or out of balance tire, IMHO.
