When the bike is sitting there running with the clutch disengaged the clutch is rattling, sounds like the motor is falling apart.

Hmmm, don't think I'd like the sound of a dry clutch too much.

Not too bad, search for any Ducati on youTube.. it's more of a clicking sound. Similar to the sound your engine makes if you deprive it of oil.
