Default New ride, with a question

03 Z1000, black, hindle pipes, fendor kit, powercamander (I think). I bought this bike a couple weeks ago after eying them for about three years. I came from an early Concours, still one of my favorite bikes, but whoa what a difference 16 years worth of technology makes! I'm loving the change.

I've got a question for all you other riders. This bikes temp runs 140's on the highway and the fan comes on at 218, shuts off at 213. Is that normal? It seems like a big temperature swing for an EFI setup and I'm wondering about engine acid buildup from running so cold. Do I need to check the thermostat or look for other problems?

I'm on the look out for an 05 myself. I have no idea about your question though since I don't own one yet but check out www.z1000.net. Good luck bro....

Mine consistantly runs in the 200's whenever I am in traffic. The fan kicks on @ 215 (per the manual) and the highest temp is supposedly 240ish before you should shut it down.

Every bike I have ever owned has been in this operating range so I have never questioned it. I would check your coolant level but I think you are right on the money.
