YZF600R The perfectly balanced middleweight supersport machine. A model of civility attuned to the everyday needs of the real world. That's not to say the 600R doesn't feast on twisty tarmac as hungrily as its supersonic R1 and R6 siblings.

Default Stock 600r sound.

I bought my 02 YZF-600R about a month or two ago, it came with a full D & D exhaust system. Unfortunately I don't like the sound of the D & D at all. It's loud and raspy almost to the obnoxious point. So my question is what does the stock exhaust sound like on the 600r? Does anyone have an audo clip? Does it sound just like all the other in-line 4's i've heard stock?

Another question, will I need to replace the whole exhaust system or just get a new slip on? A friend of mine told me that the full exhaust systems (after market) normally cause a loss in HP at lower rpm's in exchange for high end power, so for a regular driver like me the stock might not only sound better, but give me better porformance.

So to sum it up my questions are. Does anyone have a sound clip of the 600r with stock exhaust (or does it sound like all the other 600's with stock)? Will just replacing the can with the stock exhaust give me the stock sound, or will I need to do the whole exhaust system? Will the stock exhaust acctually give me better lowend performance?

Thanks.

I have an 03 yzf 600r and love it for my daily commuter. I have a m4 slip on pipe and love the sound. Here is a link of some sound clips of pipes.

I have a V&H slip on... couldn't even tell you what stock is like.

Stock, the bike is super quiet anywhere below 10k rpm. Idling at a redlight, I'd hear everyone's bikes around me. Even in the midrange, the bike is quiet. Only above 10k does it make a racket, and then it's still not nearly as bad as any aftermarket can.
I say the bike almost sounds like an electric motor, only making enough noise to really notice when it's wrapped out.

The bike is very quiet with the stock exhaust on , actually it's obnoxiously quiet. I went with the Yoshi RS3 S/O it makes it sound less like a sewing machine and more like a bike
