I would assume it's the same as my dirtbike....overtime, chain stretches and becomes loose, the sprockets teeth become worn or rounded. Power is then lost through the chain and sprockets resulting in LOSE OF HORSEPOWER.
In this particular case....for show reasons my rear sprocket was changed out to a Vortex Aluminum.....even though the bike is dressed for show it is a daily rider for me....it has worn out and began slipping. This, for sure, is a reason to change it up.
If you were to go with another aluminum sprocket I'd suggest steering clear of Vortex and look into AFAM/Drive Systems, Driven, Stealth, Sprocket Specialists, or Pit Bull. Basically any other company besides Vortex uses a Hard-Anodizing method which will lengthen the life of an aluminum sprocket. Although, I'm not sure of their new sprocket, the F5 Black Hardcoat. They've might of adjusted their ways. Since you use your bike as a DD, I'd look into Stealth Sprockets as the center of the sprocket is Aluminum Alloy and the teeth are comprised of Steel. Some other metal was used to make them a "Tri-Metal" sprocket
I have a few different sets actually. since I go to different tracks.
I have 2 driven rears
one driven front
one renthal front
one vortex front(these are fine)
+1 on the Stealth rear sprocket. I'm not a sponsored racer, I dont have the luxury of someone/company giving me new aluminum sprockets anytime I want one. As for the front sprocket I used Sprocet Specialist and used a DID ERV2 chain.
ordered a "Driven power up kit" from Solomotoparts.com (thanks for info from bumblebee) to my door for $179
