Default R1 Underseat Exhaust Discomfort

2009 R1 owners. How have you dealt with the exhaust heat on the seat of your bike? Is it problematic to the point that you don't ride the bike for long periods of time? This includes those who have aftermarket pipes.

i figure since it's a sportbike its not going to be comfortable.. i ride a 08 r1 and it heats up quickly... it's not so much directly under me but the frame on the side heats up and starts cooking my legs after while... when i put my new exhaust on im going to fork up a little extra cash for some exhaust wrap to see if that works...

maybe you could try some exhaust wrap?

Get some aluminum tape and stick it under the seat.

Gold foil will work too.

If I can wrap a heater line in my car with it thats less then a quarter inch away from a turbo downpipe and not have it melt, your ass should be fine.

I bought the adhesive backed heat barrier from thermotec.com. I haven't had time to put it under my seat yet, but the guys at the shop told me it is better at deflecting the heat than the tape everyone uses on their pipes. Check out their site for more info.

i'd imagine an aftermarket exhaust that eliminates the cat would cut down on the heat alot. those things operate at an extremely high temperature

Forgive me for being uninformed but, did Yamaha put the cat. under the seat? I know the unit on my truck can get glowing hot.

my goal is to get my new exhaust ASAP to eliminate the heating of my legs.. lol.. i think ill just put my new exhaust on and see how it goes without the wrap or any extra heat deflector material.. if its still as bad then ill start modifying it..

one of the marines i ride with just bought a 2009 R1. he says it cooks just as bad as my 08 R1..

Miles on the truck?

It shouldn't glow. Yes, it concentrates a lot of heat to burn off the gases, but if it glows it can be clogged.
