Default R1 or not!

I was wondering if anyone would recomend an r1 I am looking to upgrade my bike and i was looking at the r1's but Ive heard so many stories that it is a hard bike to keep on the ground and hard to handle. I guess I just want an opinion on the r1. Thank you!

I've owned a 929RR, 4 R1's and a partrich in a peartree... trust me when I say you'll LOVE it.... just because you're buying a litre bike doesn't mean you have to drive it like an idiot. EVERY SINGLE PERSON, newbs included, that have bought an R1 swear by them....

Trust your instincts..... BUY ONE.

If you think it sucks, crash it and collect the insurance $$ [joke]

Depends on several factors, including your level of rider expertise and experience, purpose and intended use of the "upgrade", etc. I know very many skilled riders who would refute the premise that the R1 is an upgrade. Under various circumstances, the 600 is the superior choice.

I use to have an R1 and loved it, like JOHNK said you don't have to ride it like an idiot, it's a fun bike in the twisties.

Depends on what type of riding you planning on doing. You are correct as far as te power..I cannot just hit the throttle to the rev limiter without the front end flying up in the air in 1st and 2nd around 8k rpms. As far as handling I love it, just need to get some time in the seat.

Exactly... be smart, don't ride like a jackass, and you'll be okay.

Every time I ride my R1 I'm blown away by the quick throttle response... what a rush!

i used to have a 2001 champions ed r6, sold it and bought 2003 R-1( black w/ red flames; the faster one) and love it. doesn't handle as good as a r6 but i forget it when the tach needle swings past 8 grand and i'm flying by honda's and harley's on the rear wheel with a big stupid grin on my face

Yep
You will love it, I have always loved Suzukis but after I test drove a 2004 R1, the very next day I took my locale dealer a check and bought a 2005 R1_RAVEN. I love it. I have ridin all of the liter bikes except (DUCs) and "I" think that the R1 handles the best for me.

Peace
