2003 YZF-R6R(C) Ignition Misfire During Acceleration

Symptom: The ignition consistently misfires during
acceleration and one or more
direct ignition coils arc to the cylinder
head within the spark plug well.

Cause: Water intrusion and insufficient insulation
of the outer plastic case of the
direct ignition coil, in some cases,
may allow electric current, in the secondary
portion, to arc to the cylinder
head (see adjacent illustration).

Remedy: If the problem is encountered,
replace all four direct ignition coils
with the new type direct ignition coils (see Parts Information section, page 2). The new
coils have increased water intrusion resistance and improved insulation.
