Default 2006 FJR13AEV, AEVC Electronic Gear Shift Actuator Update - M2006-012A

2006 FJR13AEV, AEVC Electronic Gear Shift Actuator Update/New Owner's Manual

Problem: The YCCS (Yamaha Chip Controlled
Shifting) shift actuator bracket could
flex during use, which could eventually
start to weaken the weld. Also, there is
a small possibility that the actuator’s
shift shaft could rotate (slip) inside the
internal gear in which it is mounted.
Cause: Flexing is caused by insufficient
strength of the bracket. Shift shaft
rotation on the shift-actuator gear
could be caused by an insufficient
interference fit of the gear.
Remedy: Install two reinforcement brackets on applicable units in the affected range (some have already
been updated) as described in this bulletin. Also, inspect those units for a sufficient interference
fit of the shift shaft and internal gear using the special tool included with the bracket kit; replace
the shift actuator if it does not pass the torque test described in this bulletin.
A new Owner’s Manual (part number LIT-11626-19-87) is being sent directly to registered customers
(or dealer, if the unit is unregistered) with units that require modification. The updated
manual explains in more detail what to do if the electronic shift system malfunctions.
NOTE:
• Only customers whose motorcycles require modification will get the letter and Owner’s
Manual from Yamaha. Other units have already been modified and were shipped to dealers
with the new manual.
• Many sold and unsold units in the affected range have already been modified. Check to see
if the reinforcement brackets have already been installed before beginning to modify a unit.
• Most affected units will pass the torque test for the shift shaft; only a small number of units
will actually need a new shift actuator assembly.
