Default Ladies join me on the track! Here's my story!

I started my riding career after graduating from college. The MSF BRC was my graduation gift to myself. The gift came after years of at first being terrified of two wheels and never wanting to even be a passenger. Shortly followed by years of begging my father to take me on as many rides as possible with his BMW 1150 GS. We wore intercom systems and he would explain the techniques of riding while he was performing them. From lane positions, looking through corners, and braking. I can still hear him... "Cass I am moving from the center of the lane to the left side of the lane now that an incline is approaching and I want to be completely visible to oncoming traffic. Now I am moving to the right side of the lane as a left corner is nearing and I want to enter the corner late here....." Whether he was studying for himself, or teaching me it didn't matter; I became infatuated with these machines and the sport of riding. Quite a dramatic change from pure fear! I started with a Honda Rebel, but my MSF instructor introduced me to Moto Guzzi. She would ride to our class on a 750 Breva and it was the most beautiful machine I had laid eyes on. After riding about 3K of beginner miles on the Rebel, I had my sights on the Italian Beauty and became the rightful owner of a 2005 750 Breva with 200 miles on it.

About a year later I took a contract job in California and decided that the only way to get there was to ride from my home in NJ. In order to really get prepared for the voyage, I signed up for a track day at NHMS and set up to learn everything there was to know about the MG and corning on the twisties. A handful of track days later between NHMS and NJMP I was interested in doing more with track days and alas here I am a control rider for Tonys Track Days!

I learned a lot from being a passenger before I started riding street bikes as well. I didn't have the benefit of intercoms, wish I had, but I probably would have driven the rider nuts with questions.

But I think there is a lot to be learned by observing from the passenger. Even now, 20 years later, I still enjoy riding two up. Though I rarely get to anymore.
