Default jacket fitment help?

hey ladies, im gonna get a jacket for my GF for our lil cruises. I was looking at some textile ones. At the moment, theres an icon merc that im watching on ebay. She's about 5'1 and 100lbs with a 34" chest. You think an XS would fit her? Icon's size chart says 34" chest would be a size small. But when we tried on astars jackets she was an XS i believe. From my experience with mens jackets textile tends to run a bit baggy. What do you all think?

(she tried an astars size 42 in leather that she says fit very well, personally i thought it could be a bit tighter, but they didn't have a 40)

It's always best if you can try a jacket on to see if it fits. Failing that, and if there is no size chart which gives more than bust size, take her measurements (length of arms, waist, bust, length of the back from bottom of neck to waist) and see if the person selling the jacket is willing to get the same measurements off the jacket.

I've done that before with online vendors, and had good results with getting gear that fits.

Well, you could. But then you'd run the risk of having to return it for something that fits properly.

We have Cycle Gear store near where we live, and they have been really good to work with me on getting gear that fits. And if they don't have it in their store, they can order it for you. My hubby had them special order a helmet, and didn't have any problems taking it back when it didn't fit. If you have a store in your area, they can probably help you out, especially if you explain beforehand that you're trying to surprise your GF. Good luck!

I'm about your GF's same size. I have a Small in my textile Joe Rocket and it fits perfect, but I had to get an XS in my Cortech mesh jacket. So size is really going to vary on the brand. I can't vouch on how the Icon's run as I steer clear of their gear...heard too many stories about how crappy the gear is made. Then I got to witness that first hand back in October when I was riding with someone and we went down. He had on an Icon mesh jacket and I had on my Cortech mesh jacket. We both slid on the asphalt about the same amount and everything, however his jacket was COMPLETELY shredded!!! I am still able to wear mine. So just something to think about as well!

I have the Icon Merc xs and they run big.

Sounds like she may need a different brand. and since it's a thin textile, i'm assuming your not having her ride in colder weather. there is room for a vest or sweater under that jacket.
