A really cool thing happened on my way home from work today. But first a little background....as many of you know from my posts here, this summer has been my first riding season, and the beginning was pretty rough. But I've been commuting to work on the bike every day, and have improved enough that I actually enjoy it now! So I was getting off the freeway and sensed there was a car coming up in the lane to my right. What I wasn't prepared for was a car full of 40 and 50-something women whooping and hollering at me, saying things like "good for you!" and "it's so cool to see a girl on a sportbike!". We pulled up to the stoplight and chatted for a few minutes, and they told me how great it was to see a woman enjoying something that's typically been a male-dominated sport. The light turned green and we went our separate ways, but they made my whole day. It reminded me how much I've come to love riding, and how great it is to see so many women on bikes. I realize it's just a small thing, but like I said, it really made my day....thanks for listening!

Really cool!
Yeah you should have encouraged them to ride. I'm also very pleased to see so many women taking up riding. I can remember going for YEARS without seeing another woman except on the back. I've been riding on the street since the mid 70s.
Along the lines of older women riding, now that I'm 50 I was thinking of borrowing my BF's bright red helmet and crashing a "red hat society" meeting....tell them if they want to REALLY enjoy life here it is. Might get a few new ones going, you never know.
About the "Red Hat Society" from Wikipedia:
The Red Hat Society fondly refers to itself as a "dis-organization" with the aim of social interaction, and to encourage fun, silliness, creativity, and friendship in middle age and beyond. The Society is not a sorority or a voluntary service club. There are no initiations or fundraising projects.
They seem a bit sedate for my tastes so I'd like to "shake 'em up" with a new idea about enjoying your midlife....we'll see how that works out.
That's awesome! It's never happened to me, but a lot of times when I tell girls that I ride, they think it's great. After the initial 'are you serious' part of course. lol. I've had a lot of guys say something as I'm riding, but that's expected. They get their boxers in a twist when they see girls on sportbikes around here b/c there really are so few of us.
&.... .....Red Hat Society -
To funny.....my mom partakes in that & I guess that explains very well why the 2 of us can't be in a room together for more than 2 hours max - ?????
Don't get me wrong - I love Mom for what she is, but I definately took more of the father side on some things.
I have yet to catch up to these ladies but there is a group of 4-5 women who ride around the area they are all 50+ most on sport bikes its the coolest thing ever!
