Default SNOB weekend fun

This weekend was our annual S orry NO B oys weekend riding/campout and as usual it was a blast!

It was supposed to be Friday, Saturday & Sunday am, but after being in KC for work most of the week I had to start catching up with an 11-hour workday on Friday. The other women took off from Portland to ride the 150+ miles of mostly tasty, twisty roads to the Paradise (aptly named!) campground in the Willamette National Forest. Our campsite was directly next to the McKenzie River, and while in camp we could hear the excited screams of the rafters on the rapids.

I got up on Saturday, in a bad mood because rain was predicted--WTF is this really July?!--but loaded up one of my vintage bikes in the pickup with Kevin's help...nice of him to get up @ 6:00am to help me.

I went via I-5 & OR 126 for speed and arrived at the campground about 9:30am....the women were just getting up after a late-night of having fun, and some drinking (never on the bikes). I got help unloading the bike and then the sun started to poke through. All I'd been hoping for was no rain and an occasional glance of blue sky, but the weather broke beautifully! We headed for Forest Service road 19, otherwise known as the Aufderheide Memorial Road, 6 miles away off Hwy 126 and the fun really began! It is 75 miles of twisties down to the town of Oakridge, some really tight, and I didn't have much trouble on the agile little RD350 keeping close to Nancy on her Triumph 955i, and she's much faster than I am. But the intermittent spots of light gravel and rocks coming off the hillsides in the first several miles kept our speeds sane.

I felt a bit beat up after 150 miles on a vintage bike, but man, what fun...then I came to find out the supposed "extra" air mattress and tent hadn't been brought (I knew I should've bought one on the way) so the hard ground made sleeping difficult. But still, this is a really fun group and the fun earlier was worth the pain!

I feel spoiled 'cause of all the great roads we have here. I don't think I could ever live anywhere else, rain or no rain.

Glad you had a good time and great weather. Boo to sleeping on the ground though!

Well, shit...for some reason I'm having all kinds of trouble uploading pics from my phone to my email so I can download to pic files. I have only one downloaded right now, and it's not a twisty section, but where my friend Nancy & I stopped for a quick break, on one of the only straight sections of the road. We were waiting for the Cruiser riders to catch up, we would do that about every 30-40 miles so we wouldn't be too far ahead. It was cool being able to hang within less than a minute with Nancy on my little RD350...
