I've ridden on and off for a good while. My wife of 12 year (this month) has expressed interest in owning / riding a bike. So....since the bug has bitten me again after teaching my son to ride his dirtbike...I'm thinking of getting a bike for her to learn on and something I can maybe beat back and forth to work on.
I'm thinking of buying her a spot in the MSF's "Jump Start" Class..
Not as involved as the MSF class itself, but will definitely get her feet wet. I have learned, in almost 12 years of marriage, that I am NOT the one to teach her how to ride. As I am her husband, and it's woman law somewhere that she must do the opposite of anything I tell her...so..
I was thinking this class would be good to see if she REALLY wants to ride. If she does (I'm not telling her this part yet) and she likes the class, I'm going to have her go to the MSF class, and when she gets home from it, I will have procured a Ninja 250 for her, and we'll go shopping for gear.
Is this a good idea for a 'gift' since end of this month is our Anniversary + her birthday??? (same day..yes I am that f'n smart)
I was hoping to get her in the class before her b-day, but it ain't happening as we're going on vacation during that time.
Opinions please ladies
Chris
I ain't as good as I once was. Hell nobody is THAT good..
Just remember if it turns out she doesn't like it, don't show your disappointment too much My gf finally showed an interest, took half the msf and was so uncomfortable she quit. I try to be happy she tried and not disappointed that she isn't riding.
Yep, that's the best way to start her out. If she likes it, she started out on the right foot, but if she doesn't you don't have much invested in finding out.
You have to remember you're dealing with a biased crowd here though. These are the wonderfully sexy ladies that tried it and liked it. If it were me, I'd be sure to include something else as part of the gift in case she really has no interest or tries it but decides it's not for her.

that's awesome! i think you should get the bike and a small gift, keep the bike at a friend's house, so if she likes it, you can bring it back after she is done with the MSF. When you are on vacation, and it IS her birthday, tell her that the small present (necklace, earrings, whatever) is only a small part of her present and you are very very very very very sorry that the other part of her present isn't ready yet. If she likes it, the bike is the other part, if she doesn't like it, get her the matching bracelet to go with the necklace, and explain what you did AFTER. She will appreciate the thought...
just my opinion
now...forwarding this thread to the boyfriend in hopes that he sees it and is ashamed!!!

Good for you!!!! I think it's great!
What kind of dirtbike does your son have? Because, in my humble opinion, learning on the dirtbike is even better than on the ninja 250. For her first couple of rides, depending on the bike, the dirtbike is the perfect thing. Because if she drops it, it does not matter. She can get the idea of clutchwork and throttle control...
Wonderful act of love and the sentiment is right on, but...
Maybe it's just that I'm put together funny (short buxom brunette in a world of elegant leggy blondes), but in my opinion selecting a bike is a very personal thing. I sat on several before making up my mind, and if DH had made the choice for me and chosen a bad fit I'd have conflicting emotions.
Maybe gift wrap several bike brochures with a card telling her to pick one..?
