Default I'm back and with a new baby!

I haven't been on here is awhile! I sold the fizzy last year to pay childcare and only now got another bike. I named her Fawkes and she is a 2007 Ducati 800ss. OMG, she rides completely different and is a much more technical ride. I am in complete love

I dumped her after only 3 days though!!!! I was in holiday traffic and the difference in how she handles with really low RPM and at 5mph after 40 minutes caused me to make a really stupid decision. I detoured off the freeway and took a road I wasn't familiar with that had some serious twisties. Her lean is amazing and... I got spooked since I (stupidity #2) wasn't wearing my pants (because I was having a hard time getting used to the new controls with them being new and stiff ) and I paniced when I realised I wasn't sure how to avoid dragging my knee on the damned growd wearing my work pants.

I'm fine (gear works!!!), she's fine and will be even better after some... "improvements" but I'm not replacing the plastics till I am more familiar with her. Has anyone here had a hard time transitioning from a inline 4 to a twin? She is flippen amazing but the torque is all new to me.

I want to take some advanced classes since I am a full year off a bike, what are some of your experiences with verious sportbike schools or advanced MSF? I was considering the femmemoto but it seems more geared toward demonsration than teaching. Well, that's all. Wanted to say hi!

Congrats on the new baby, and the new bike!

Sorry to hear about your mishap. In addition to an advanced riders course, you might also want to read Sport Riding Techniques, by Nick Ienatsch.

I recommend reading it once a year. Lots of good info, and what you read will come back to you when you need it most.

Ladies, I believe Fawkes (VERY cool name, BTW) is the new baby!!!

Congrats Fzzygrl! She is a beauty! I am sure you will adapt to the twin before you know it. In dirtbiking I had similar issues going from a 2 stroke to a 4. Just take your time and practice!!! Awesome little bike.

Her fairings are actually goudged into from skidding into the rocks but not ... cracked?!?!?! how the hell did they not crack? Under the fairings nothing was touched! I replaced a signal, the shift peddle and if I were blind it's like nothing happened. I'll get the new tank and plastics in a couple months and new convertibars and exhaust by x-mas. She is my pheonix so of course she's recover like new.

I'm not sure how fast I was going since I was trying to slow down. Now horribly fast though as I'm not a speeder. I had a used arai helmet that did it's job well (I hit my head face first) and my dainese boots got a bit scuffed. I am pissed that the sole is seperating on the toe of one boot though and want to see if it can be fixed since they were only 3 days old. My heine gereke jacket and gloves on the other hand took the brunt of what looks like a slide through the rocks and dirt. I got the tiniest rash through my jacket on my elbow and a tad on my side were the jacket lifted but the leather is thinner in spots now and really eaten up. I think the jacket was well padded and had good armor but the leather wasn't very heavy. My gloves took some scuffing but seem to be in good shape. So I think I just need a new helmet and jacket, but I may need new gloves too. I don't think it was the speed that tore my jacket up though as much as the rocks I was sliding through.
