I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do a WTB in this forums, but there is no WTB Gear forum that I saw. I hope not to piss any mods off
Anyways, I am interested in getting some gear for the Fiancee. I took her for a ride on the back of my bike and now shes bought gloves and a helmet and is always asking for a ride.
The most important item I want to get for her is a good SAFE riding jacket. She has nothing that remotely comes close to being safe for road riding, and I want her protected as mucha s possible.
Her measurments are:
42-44" chest
25-27" arm length
Usually she fits the equivalent of 14-18 sizes in Womens jackets, depending on company.
I'd prefer used but in good condition only for price advantages, we are both Part time workers, full-time College students. Safety is the most important, so I'd like her to have atleast Perf Leathers, or atleast a good hybrid.
Just let me know if you have anything your interested in selling off.

We hope it fits nice on her. I'd like to eventually get her some good riding/touring pants and some boots, but I'm broke as of last night and she's in the hole as well Rather be safe though.

I'm in the same size range as your fiance and it's a biatch trying to find leather gear that fits right especially in the pants area.
Just on a side note not trying to scare you or anything but if you can at least get leather pants and the best boots you can find you'll be better off in the long run.
I had first gear mesh pants (sz 16) and tecknic boots (not racing kind) and I just crashed last weekend went down going approx 50-65 mph and I received a broken ankle and some rash on my knee and elbow. Had I been wearing leather and the proper boots I would've walked away from the seen, a little bruised but not the way I am now.
I know leathers are expensive but I'm kicking myself in the ass now for not having them. I can't afford them either, but I also am not looking forward to the hospital bills..
I know have a motogp leather jacket and am looking for leather pants and boots and gloves and of course another helmet.
good luck to ya..

I am sorry to hear about your wreck....fortunately you are ok. However, even leather will leave you with road rash. In some cases it's the armor that will get you as it doesn't always fit as well as it should. Pros and cons to all of it. I have also had leather wear through in a crash too....at lower speeds. That being said, yes leather, no leather. I have seen the textiles do as well as leather in crashes. There are too many variables to say one is for certain better than the other. However, I'd rather see textile than nothing. Textiles are far more versatile than leather therefore most people will be more apt to wear them in all conditions.
Another point is that if you don't have your leather jacket zipped to pants, it's going to come up like any other version and leave you with road rash....I guess my point is to not knock the textiles too much. If they didn't work, they would be made and sold.
FWIW, I have my 10 year old daughter in textile for the street......
a cheaper option for leg protection (until you can afford to get proper pants) are the icon field armor leg armor. They protect your knees and shins and are designed to be worn under jeans. You can pick up a pair for ~$60. They do not offer any hip or butt protection, but they are certainly much, much better than jeans alone.

My fiancé has a big scar on his shoulder from leather burn, where the leather skidded across the pavement, and transferred the heat from the friction to his skin and burned it, even though the leather didn't rip and expose the skin.
Yeah, this is an issue that is very debatable. I just know what my pants looked like after log rolling and sliding and I've been told that the leathers would've held up much better in the crash I was involved in. I'm mean you racers where leathers rather than textile so there's gotta be something to that..
My jacket did it's job and it wasn't leather, but I believe the armor in the left elbow is what gave the little rash spot on my elbow, the jacket was ripped to shreds and my pants well the only part the was saveable was the hip area so the paramedics made me a cute lil pair of textile shorts and that's what I wore to the hospital. LOL
Hopefully I'll never have to prove which one is better, crossing my fingers.
