Do any of the women on this forum work full days until 5 and go to school at night?
I was thinking of going back to school, but I'm grappling with the thought of having to be away from my husband for class time, study time etc...
We don't have kids, so that makes it easier, but I'd still miss him.
It may sound silly, but it's a real concern of mine. It will take several years to get my degree, so this would be a major life-change!
I'd really love to hear your thougths on this issue, as well as any personal experiences you can share.
That'll be a handful, no doubt. You won't have much time to do anything trying to juggle both of those. Maybe he could come visit you during your breaks?

My sister does. She works full time, has three kids, a husband in the Navy, and just got her Bachelor's a few months ago. Now she's working on her Master's. She does online courses through Florida State, so she doesn't have to be away from home any more than necessary.
I have two kids and at the time a full time (50-60 hr/week) job. Even with the online classes I couldn't do it. Something had to give so it was school.

hmm...depending on which University I go to, the classes could be held downtown. We live live about 25-30 minutes away from downtown with no traffic and going around 140km/h most of the way. Bummer.
Thanks for the suggestion, though.
Thanks for your input acalliste and blndebmbr...
I'll look into taking some of the courses online, to make it a bit easier.
I'm aiming for a Bachelor's...Master's is a bit ambitious for me at this point...your sister sure is a go-getter, acalliste!
My Mom did it for 6 years in her '40s. It was tough, and she missed my brother and me, but she had a crappy marriage so she didn't miss my Dad one bit!
Anyway, thanks for your responses

My work has been like that for the past few years, but now it is back to normal, so I may as well take advantage of it!
50-60 hours per week is a lot, plus kids, plus school? Yikes, I think it's great that you even tried.

My sister (she's 3 years younger than me) is amazing. She does all that and still finds time to take the kids to their various sports and afterschool activities, and get involved in her community. She's a perfectionist and is very, very driven and competitive. Been married 20 years and has three happy, well adjusted kids, defying the odds for most teenage marriages.
Her oldest child, Jessica, is graduating high school this year, and is starting at UF in the fall (she's even more amazing than her mother, having taken college classes the last two years of high school, and working part time this last year).
Of course, the last year has been somewhat easier since Jessica can drive.
Sorry to ramble on, I'm just so proud of her and my nieces and nephew that I'll use any excuse to talk about them.
I'm a divorced GED holder, so it's nice to have some successful relatives to look up to.
I work approx. 50-60 hours a week, and go to school at night. I usually take 9 hrs. a semester. Its hard and sucks but will be so worth it when I finish. I don't have any kids and my fiance works second shift so it makes it easier to go to class and study.
Chris
It can be done. My sisiter went back to school and got her master's. She worked a full time job as a nurse and has two children. Most colleges have classes geared towards working adults which can be on weekends and nights. Good Luck.

i've done it,
i actually worked 2 part time jobs totaling about 55 hours a week, and went to school full time (actually, i was an overachiever and usually take about double the recommended credits)...and basically never slept. It can be done. My suggestion is to take one-two classes for one semester to see if it will work out. If you are determined enough, it will work out. And having an understanding husband will help a lot also. good luck!!

I'm currently working full time and taking 9 credits, when I started this semester it was tough because my husband was home at night. His shift just changed 2 weeks ago so he is gone at night as well. now I like the classes because it keeps me occupied. I think I'm taking one course over the summer and dropping down to 2 in the fall. taking 3 classs was a bit of a streach.
