Umm... to give it a background you have to use Thomas Myspace editor: http://www.strikefile.com/myspace/

Then you can tell it you want to use a background, give it the URL of the pic you want to use, then it generates code for you to paste into your "about me" thing.

I had to get my son to help me figure that out, so good luck!
