So I finally got my new bike insured today. It's actually Dave (CopperTL)'s old CBR 1000. After looking around a little bit, some of the rates I found were WAY too high. (I am 25, 1 failure to obey a traffic control device ticket back in 05/2005, single, rent an apartment, etc...)
Anyway, Progressive was if I remember right something like $900 - $1000 a year for full coverage $25k/$50k/$10k limits (I think thats what it was) with $1k deductibles on collision and comp. Which I decided was too much, so I was going to just go with liability only for like $390 / year. Surprisingly Progressive was the cheapest of all the places I looked at too.
Today, I went to State Farm and got a quote, and ended up buying insurance too. Now I'm paying $51 / month for $250k/$500k/$100k liability, $1k deductibles on collision and comp, and medical coverage. and $100k/$300k under/uninsured motorist. It would have been like $60 / month for $500 deductibles, so I've been thinking maybe I should have done that instead. If I move my car over to them from USAA, it would have been something like $30 / month for full coverage w/ $1k deductibles. (and the car was about the same rate)
This coverage is also suspendable during the winter months, so basically the months that you don't ride (nov - mar I'm assuming?) you can keep just comprehensive coverage which comes out to like $4 / month.
So, if any of you are looking for insurance out there I would highly recommend State Farm.
i also use state farm ins on everything. for me their rates are unbeatable. but my friend totaled his 06 1000RR and they droped him so fast it wasnt even funny. so if you have too many tix or a claim, dont even think about it. which brings up the very old argument of: What is the point of full coverage ins if your insurer wont let you use it.
Congrats! Most of us here do have State Farm. I've been with them since the days of bike night at Solid Gold McDonalds...my previous agent was there handing out business cards. I previously had Progressive until they raised their rates back in 2001.
Todd Brett at (262)242-2700 for the win

Wow...I totalled my 02 F4i just not 6 months after getting it and they were really cool about it...and I don't even have any other policies with them and my rates didn't go up because of it.
I have had this discussion with my agent. He has said that they are more apt to not drop you if you have other policies with them.

I have State Farm for my Sportbikes. They have the best coverage for the money. But my cruisers are with Progressive. They have the best coverage for the money for those. I have everything but my cruisers with State Farm. I asked my agent about the cruiser insurance deal. She said she couldn't come close to progressives rate on those for some reason. She was perplexed cause she said State Farm prides themselves with having the best rates around. I laughed and said if she brought the rate down for the cruisers then she'd have all my insurance business.

I believe State Farm places a premium on high CC bikes...which drives the price higher than say Progressive that doesn't use CC as a main factor.
I used to have Progressive...back when I was in my early 20's. Back then it didn't matter who I had for insurance...I still had to pay at least $1400/yr!! Now I have 2 bikes, 3 cars and a trailer with full coverage for less than that through Dave! The nice thing about Progressive if you ride the track is that they will cover a crash as long as it wasn't a competitive event (ie timed and scored). Accuity (who I have through Dave) will not cover anything that happens on the grounds of a race track (even if something happens in the parking lot). State Farm can go either way depending on what the underwriter had for breakfast that morning!
State Farm would be cheaper for my bikes, but when it came to cars and my home, Accuity saved me enough money to make up the difference.

Just like Joe, I have all of my insurance through Acuity, auto, home and motorcycle. Full coverage on my 06 GSX-R750 is $417.00 a year with $500 deductibles.
The big issue is the driving record in most cases, not to mention sportbikes usually bring a premium themselves due to HP vs. weight ratio

hmmm.... maybe i should start shopping around again. I pay about $700 year round for full coverage on the 999 through State Farm. My agent is in Saukville somewhere i think.

Well, just to give you an idea......I quoted myself on that 07 1098 with my company with full coverage would be $702 a year with $500 ded.

oh ok. so maybe not that much different. i know State Farm is based off of CC's. cause i was paying the same exact amount from my 03 RC51 and then going to my 06 Duc. I either have 500 or 250 deductables, cant remember.
We have state farm as well and pay $178 a month (summer months) for a house, 3 cars and two bikes. That's with having a teenage son on the policy and having totalled my first bike and Bryan having a claim on his hawk. Not too bad I think after all is said.
