Nationwide gas prices may top $3 by weekend

NEW YORK - U.S. retail gasoline prices will probably vault well over $3.00 per gallon in most parts of the country as early as this weekend after Hurricane Katrina devastated the energy industry in the Gulf Coast, analysts said Wednesday.
The spike will be bad news for drivers already paying nominally the highest pump prices on record, and has led some analysts to predict a looming economic backlash.
“This in many ways is the worst-case scenario that the oil industry has been fearing,” said Geoff Sundstrom, spokesman for the AAA motorist group.

Two days ago it was $2.67/gallon for regular, than yesterday it jumped to $2.79, and today it's up to $2.99. Makes me sick to my stomach!
I know it's crazy I am going to the race track tomorrow and paid today $7 dollars a gallon for racing fuel... its crazy...
We are being screwed big time....

Oh my God! This is nutz. If it's $2.99 for regular in WI... I could only imagine what I'm gonna have to pay in California for premium, when I return to Camp Pendleton.

I just bought 10 gallons of racing fuel for tomorrow and paid 6.99 a gallon for a total of almost 70 dollars in fuel.... That is double what I was paying last year...

Did anyone see the FX TV-Movie "Oil Storm" that aired about 2 months ago?
It predicted EXACTLY this scinario... a Huricane wipes out New Orleans and destroys the oil ports and pipelines in the gulf.
So far - it's like reading the script. Spooky.
Long story short, it sends America into a neo-dark age when our oil reserves run out. Civil war, strife, famine, hunger, dogs-and-cats-living-together type of thing.
