Atta boy...Ride Red!

Don't you have a relationship with a bank (ie have an account somewhere)? If so, talk to a loan officer there and try to get everything arranged before you visit another dealership. That way, when you've got your deal, all the dealer has to do is call your bank with the VIN. Screw the dealership financing! You'll get a better rate through a bank you regularly do business with anyway.

Best bet is to get financing from your local bank. Don't let the dealership know about it. As far as they're concerned, it's cash, and deal with it as such.

Paying your CC bill in full every time you use it is not going to help get a higher credit score. They look at it as she had the money to began with she should have paid cash your best bet is to pay more then the min. payment the first bill you get and then the remaining balance the next bill. Also if you have credit cards and you don't use them at least 1 time a year even for $1.00 purchase you drop your credit score. I had no prob getting approved for my car loan when I was 20 years old with no cosigner and I had 1 CC when I was 18 in those 2 years I had a credit score most 40 year olds would like to have

I don't think that's true- I have had a credit card since I was 18 and paid it in full every month. I qualified for all three of my cell phones no problem and have paid them every month. I qualified for a car loan of over 20k almost a year ago at the age of 21 (you're also supposed to get some leniancy on your first car loan). It all builds- since I paid my credit card off in full and on time I got the phones and the phones helped with the car. Now I have student loans to pay back as well and I'll pay those on time and that will help. Everything helps- you better believe not paying your credit card on time will destory your credit- missing any payment will. I was very surprised when I qualified for my car loan- I asked the Honda finance lady what was up and she said basically the reason they were going to give it to me is because I've never missed a payment on anything. Good deal- so when I go to buy a house all that credit I've built up will help

Just don't ever buy anything you can't afford and pay crap on time- even if you have to pay some sort of rush fee- it's worth it.

Yep I learned from a lot of the teachers that I had for econ that it's best way to keep your credit up. There were a few times where I faultered, but what I just did was paid it off all the way again. I'm using them only 2 times a month now for gas.

A good credit score is anything over 600
I'm not sure what a avg credit but i've heard around 660
Above avg is over 700
and i believe 799 is a perfect credit score

Anything under 500 it will be almost impossible to get approved for a car loan and such without a co-signer

That's true for car loans... but they hand out car loans to just about anybody. You have got to have 550 or lower to be denied a car loan and you've gotta do some serious ignoring of collection agencies/repos/etc in order to get to that point.

The FICO scores that you are talking about are usually around 700 for the average American. If you have below that... you either have some bad marks, lack of credit history, or things not reported correctly. Check your report and dispute anything that looks wrong in any way. The credit bureau is forced to do an investigation and if they cannot verify that the information is correct within 30 days, they are forced by federal law to remove the information from your credit report. I got a few things removed by disputing them when the company in question was going through a merger I heard about in the news. They couldn't verify the info within 30 days because they were too busy with merger reorganization. ;)

I've talked with motorcycle sales reps and bank officials before about motorcycle loans. Basically what it comes down to is that if you have below a 650 FICO score... forget a motorcycle loan. Over that you should be able to get one, and the rate will go down as the score goes up.

I advise EVERYONE to check your FICO scores and credit reports once per year. Look at each of the 3 national credit bureaus. Should cost you like $30 or so to check... (unless you've been denied credit in the last 30 days, then you can get 1 copy for free, but just the report, not the FICO score).

Personally, I check my credit report every year when I do my taxes. Makes for an easy spring cleaning with the finances and gets everything done at one time.

I applied for a credit card and was denied and was mailed a copy of my credit report. I fixed some inaccuracies in the report, but on all the different reports I have (maybe 3 or 4 in the last 6 months) none have this FICO score. How do I see what my FICO score is?

Tom.

This is incorrect

a perfect score is 850

great credit would consist of anything over 700

average credit is 635-650

anything below 600 would be considered seriously impaired or at one time had been impaired and is now on the road to recovery

As far as credit cards go....you want to keep you balance at or below 35% of your limit and make payments on time.

Here is how credit scores are comprised:

Scoring models include and apply all of the following to determine your score

Past payment performance: 35%

1.the fewer lates, judgements, liens, collections the better. (obviously)
2. recent lates ar more indicative of future default by you than those that occurred more than 24 months ago
3.a 30 day late by you today will have a greater negative impact on your score than a bankruptcy 5 years ago

Using your credit: 30%

1. Low balances on several credit cards are better than high balances on a few cards. Balances should be kept below 35% of the credit limit
2. To many credit cards could hurt you...if you have 10 cards that have a combined limit of 50k...the potential for you to run up those cards is there...creating a debt load that may be unmanageable

Credit history: 15%

1. The longer accounts have been open the better
2.Opening new accounts and closing seasoned accounts will drive your score down
3.A short credit history isn't bad...as long as you don't use credit heavily right away...ease into it SLOWLY.

Types of credit in use: 10%

1. finance company accounts will score lower than accounts you get through banks or department scores
2."90 days same as cash" are generally done by finance companies

Inquiries into your credit: 10%

1. Looking for credit from multiple sources can indicate a higher risk...if several credit cards have been applied for in a short amount of time = high risk
2. PLEASE NOTE: Multiple inquiries regardless of the number for mortgages or cars, in a 14 day period only count as one inquiry.

I hope this clears up any misconceptions with credit scoring...also there are 3 different credit bureau's in the united states.

Transunion which services the midwest primarily

Equifax which services the east coast primarily

Experian which services the west coast primarily

If you need to make a correction on your credit please make sure you contact all the bureaus....even though the service other areas the mistake on your bureau might still be on there and all of the bureaus work seperate from each other so if you correct an error on one...it won't be corrected on the others.

Go to the credit bureaus websites and order your FICO score directly from them.

NOTE FOR EVERYONE: YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT FICO SCORE WITH EACH CREDIT BUREAU!!!

ONE LAST NOTE: EACH CREDIT BUREAU SETS THEIR OWN "TOP" & "BOTTOM" END FOR SCORING! (300-850 is not the case at every one, once you order your score it will show the max and min numbers right on your results)
