I haven't ridden the new new Thruxton, but having sat on previous models the riding position is fairly extreme. Gaolee, another forum member, has ridden one but I don't recall his impressions. For what it's worth, were I to buy one of Triumph's retros I'd probably go with the Scrambler or a straight up Bonnie. The Thruxton, to me, just doesn't make a lot of sense. It's very cool looking, but to deal with those ergos and not have the performance of even a Honda F4...... But, to each their own. Aesthetics can be an end unto themselves.
