I brought home my fourth Triumph on Sunday. It was originally a 1998 Daytona that someone has abused and ended up parking in the back of a large heavy thing.
I got her with a pair of severely bent upper fork tubes, a missing headlight and magnesium bracket, and a missing upper fairing. The tack has cracked glass, but the rest of the bike is in *cough* good shape.
Someone had desecrated the Triumph namesake by spray (YES...SPRAY)painting a Lightning Yellow set of bodywork flat black. They painted over everything. They then went FURTHUR by putting neon lights behind every one of the fairings and even drilled holes in the stock undertail to mount a single light under there (which they obviously broke...who DOESN'T put marks on their undertail with their rear tire??). I got her without a key, and the shop that I got her from said they couldnt get to the battery to attempt to start her.
I immediately put a spare set of 'legs' on her as I couldnt bare to see her standing on the broken ones.I used the allen-wrench trick to get the rear seat off as soon as I got her home and cut her free from the bounds of the shady neon wiring, installed a spare keyset that I had so that I could attempt to start her.
I used my 99 Daytona as a donor for voltage, but alas, the only relay that came on was the ECU relay. I have found at least one plug disconnected that shouldn't have been (to the fan), I'll strip her down even furthur over the weekend to see what all could be ailing the poor girl. She will never again wear the Daytona eyes, a Speed Tripple headlight setup is already on the way. I'll post pics as soon as possible.

Hey did you get the key set swapped? I was looking at mine, looks like it's not going to be a whole lot of fun. Did you just drill out the sheer pin? I'm converting my S3 over to clip-ons so was snooping around under the clamps.
Alot of guys are putting gixxer fronts on these now. You can use the stock GSX-R triple clamps and streering damper and keep the triumph wheel, you just need a different top bearing. There is a big long thread about it on T595.net.
Yeah...I've already acquired a set of Gixxer 1k forks, lookin for the tripple clamps now...I saw the bearing NPN number...I'm going to go that route on my other daytona..this one is STILL becoming an S3 though..thanks!
Okay...update on the 'huffer' as it's being called. I put the Acerbis Diamond headlight system on it (cheapo headlights, with 20w bulbs...but it looks so MEAN!!) and FINALLY got it to crank over after I was shown by a friend that there are two plugs in the wiring harness' front end that are interchangeable . So it cranks, but would not light up unless you poured fuel down the TBs...so I pulled the injectors off and am cleaning them this weekend to see if she'll fire on her own. Cross your fingers. Pics to come soon.
Also...my GIXXER front end swap is nearing completion. To do the swap, you either need GIXXER 1k clipons, or a dirtbike-bar-conversion-kit and drill your own front end holes. I REALLY REALLY hate dirtbike bars...plus, my throttle cable, clutch cable, and brake lines would have to be custom units, to make up for the extra length. So I'm on the lookout for a set of clipons and upper/lower triple clamps. I already got the forks for nearly nothing (one has a fender hanger broken off, but who cares? I'm not running a front fender). I got the lower tripple clamp on Ebay for $35, so I'm just looking for the upper and clipons now . The turbo for this bike is about 30% done. The plates are built for the turbo, and the exhaust is ready to go. Just waiting on the CNC guy to finish off my intake plenum TB plate.
Anyways....hope to get pics tomorrow of that KILLER front end.
The huffer went on the back burner for two weeks while I finished the General Lee for an upcoming local bike show. We did manage to get a bit further on the header, and I found out that the turbo needs rebuilt, but the big motor should be on it's way...so as soon as I get the turbo and the header straightened out, we are in there like swimwear.
