Degrees of hanging off
Over the past few months on backroads with little to zero traffic, I've been both studying my own degrees of hanging off, how when I hang off too much at too slow a speed, to those times when I am going a bit fast into a known corner and the "oh shit" mind voice says I have potentially fucked up.
Don't worry, I've been rashed before, and fear not.
I'm talking about those times that you enter and commit to a corner where
you overcome any kind of mental freezing and just say...awww...screw iot...I'm going to make it"...if you even think about it all. Sometimes it seems like just a reaction, other times, you are aware of every little input you are making to save your ass.
it seems like one more inch of hanging means the difference between staying in the right part of the road on the outside, or possibly ending up in the ditch.
I've also read articles, studied pictures of Moto GP, AMA, WSBK riders and the way they hang off, how much...s their shoulder square, or is it slightly turned.
I've noticed Rossi sometimes looks a bit "crossed up"...with his butt and his shoulders not being in perfect parallel to the track, the bike, or plumb with the world.
The closest I have come to finding a known, great, good rider that seems to take the approach that I am most comfortable with is John Hopkins.
This guy hangs his leg, butt, shoulders, head, nipples as far inside the turn as he can get or as needed.
In your opinions...
Is this a good way to approach finding your own style of hanging off?
I know I need to do about 100 more track days to probably get a better
fix on things, but...indulge me with your ideas on this please.
Thanks.
This might make for a good heated discussion...or a cure for insomnia...
