2-up on track / 2-up riding schools?
This past Monday was my second time with Ridesmart Motorcycle School at Motorsport Ranch-Cresson. Of course, it was a freakin blast, and I came home thrashed and exhausted and with a grin that still hasn't gone away. I did Level 1 again, and one of the instructors pulled me aside and politely asked me to please, next time sign up for level 2 (guess I was doing a bit more passing then they liked to see.. whoops!). Anyway, I got home that night and couldn't stop talking about it to Vic (fiancee), and she asks, "Do you think they'd let us go out there 2-up?"
That got me thinking... we do alot of sport riding/sport touring 2-up and we work pretty well together. I can keep a good pace, but not to the point where I need to start hanging off the bike or anything. However, I've seen pics of people with passengers getting waaay over, both off of their seats, and I think it would be fun as hell to be able to practice doing that in a safe and controlled environment like a trackday. It would also be sure to translate across to our street riding, and make us a better and safer pair of riders. So, I called up Dave Wonders, the organizer of Ridesmart, and asked him if arranging something like this would be possible. He liked the idea, and said he would check with his insurance company to make sure they didn't have any problems with it, and asked me to do some research into whether there are any existing riding schools that allow 2-up, or even better, have a specialized 2-up curriculum. What do they teach, what techniques do they encourage, etc.? Also, if we have anyone on here who does ride aggressively 2-up, what advice can you give? He just wants to put together a basic course so it doesn't seem like they're just throwing 2-ups out on the track without any instruction or guidance. So, if anyone knows of any organizations that do have a special 2-up class, please let me know... Thanks!
