Default Nelson Ledges WERA tragedy...RIP

Yesterday in a WERA race, Jeremy Wernle high-sided and lost his life exiting carousel at Nelson Ledges (OH). Word has it, there was no impact other than the track and ground.

I'm not a personal friend but a fellow racer and simply wanted to post this in our racer's corner to raise awareness and encourage air-fence and fallen rider support programs at the tracks we enjoy so much, in a sport that is so dangerous.

From friends and family, Jeremy was a very talented racer and great man.

RIP

RIP to Jeremy

This weekend at Road America my freinds buddy crashed in his 1st ever race and got a helicopter ride, lucky for him he just has a really bad concussion, a sprained wrist, and a broken finger. We still don't know the details of what happened, but his helmet was actually split about 4 inches long, at least it still saved his life.

RIP to the rider/racer. I'm sorry he lost his life, losing it at the racetrack will not ease his families grief any, but I'm sure he would have rather done it doing something he loved.

from what i hear nelson ledges is a shit track, it needs so much work. if you're off line in the slightest you might as well be off road. out of the few wera and fastraxx racers i know all of them have been down pretty bad at nelsons...everyone.

it's an old track with no budget...they never repave/patch correctly. It is a very bumpy track and pretty high speed at that.

I'd never do Fastrax because that's the only place they go....WERA uses it a few times a season and CCS never.

I was just watching some video from one of my friends who is a top WERA expert...check it out if you like.

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoid=12617183

He's on an '06 R6 like mine....speeds are probably around 130 on the front straight, 110 through carousel, and 160 on the back straight...just to give you an idea since his camera doesn't show guages.

Damn! That looks like a scary place to ride. I couldn't really see much on the video to indicate how the run off is, but it looks like it could be bad in some areas.

RIP to Jeremy...

God damn that track suxs. U can really see ur buddies bike and the bikes he's filming bouncin around @ 110+ yikes bro,all it woulda taken was the rear suspension ever so slightly off from bein set up perfect and the rear woulda los traction. I know many a road safer then that track ,with more runoff room and def better paved.

If you race, if you do track days, if you know anyone who does either, please take a moment to go to Roadracing World Action Fund and make a donation.

Every bit helps, and this is one 'charity' that we should all get behind. If you make a donation it might be nice to include SBN in the comments section or dedicate it to a fallen rider that you have known.

RIP..

Nelson's IS a very bumpy track. I've done my very first trackday there and it was a little unnerving..

Just hate to hear of a rider going down....
