Ok .. so I am in kinda a bind here. I am thinking about selling my race bike, but its not a normal race bike or else I could figure out the price.
Ok...so I have a good friend who is an instructor at the California Superbike school. The school instructed Tommy Hayden, and is sponsored by Kawasaki. So my friend was able to aquire the 2003 Kawasaki ZX6RR that Tommy raced on. My friend raced the bike for a couple of seasons after getting it, and won one of his classes in the expert division. Now he has gotten an 07 Ninja, and sold the the T. Hayden bike, along with all the certificates.
I think I am ready to sell it now as well...its a great bike, but I am ready to get a newer one.
So this bike has everything. Best body work, full Ohlins front and back, quick shifter, 1/4 turn, attack rearsets, akro exhaust...and TONS of other stuff.
Now again...if I were to just sell it on Ebay, I could guess a price, but do you guys think its worth more since its a former AMA championship bike? And does the fact that it was Haydens make it worth more?
I would like some serious professional advice on how much I should charge for this...like if it was yours...how much would you charge, and would you put it on Ebay, or where? Thanks so much for your help guys!
I think you need to figure out what the bike is worth ....
based on comparable bikes for sale. Now tommy is not nicky, so I would maybe 500 to a 1000 for the fact that its tommy's. Is the bike autographed by tommy?? if not papers dont necessarily mean alot people will be skeptical that they are fake....

Toward the end of each season you can often times find race bikes of the 'stars' for sale, if you know where to look. The fact that a celebrity owned it makes it worth only as much as someone will pay. Finding someone who could truely exploit the limits of a true factory level bike is rare, plus you can build a racebike that is pretty damn fast for not alot of extra money over the initial cost of the bike. I would imagine that your not going to have a top Expert racer buy the bike for racing because it's already outdated for that application, this would be better for a really fast Amateur racer or an Expert not looking to be at the front. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just telling you how it is, technology advances so fast that a bike that's more than 3 years or so old is handicapped against the new ones already - AT THE FRONT RUNNING EXPERT LEVEL! Another issue is the fact that the bike has been used REALLY HARD already, that can sway racers away from it because they may feel it's past it's prime - though it still may be really fast.
A truely fast racer can go fast on anything, but what he CHOOSES to go fast on is a different story. I personally don't think you'll get the most money for this bike out of someone who is seriously fast, I think it will probably be from someone who is a collector/enthusiast of some type or someone developing their racing ability. Like Whitman already said, good luck trying to get too much more than average selling price for this bike compared to similar race bikes not owned by a famous Pro racer.

What you just read is my opinion and is based on my experiences and the info I have acquired during my life, it's my interpretation and isn't written in stone. Yes, I post long responses regularly because I like to fully explain my views. Don't like it or agree with what I have to say? Then don't read it or respond to it! Respond like an immature idiot to posts of mine and I will just ignore you. Have a nice day.
You'll definitely get the most money for it from a collector a TH fanatic.
I've sold a lot on ebay and one technique for selling is to be really confident in the fact that the bike is worth A LOT of money. I've done that with other borderline collectible items and it seems when people see an item that is seemingly priced low, they're perceived ceiling is lowered...but if you start the item high the potential bidder is generally confident that it's a highly valuable collectible. I did this with a bunch of Mickey Mantle baseball cards right after his death.
Good luck!

According to this month's Motorcyclist Mag Scott Russell's AMA ZX-7 racebike was sold on E-Bay for less than $2,000.00! Some lucky SOB made out like a bandit!!

You are joking...or trying to make me cry. I would have bought that bike in a heart beat...no doubt.
