Totally depends on how good you want it to look & how much time you're willing to spend.....

If you want it perfect, it's just like painting anything else.... sand, sand, sand, sand, sand.... wash it down, get in the right environment (painting booth), spray multiple light coats... wetsand, spray, wetsand, spray, wetsand, spray... clear, clear, clear, clear, clear....

get the picture?

If you just wanna do a quicky job, sand the existing paint w/ very fine sandpaper, wash it down & spray right over it.

this is all you need to do as long as the existing paint is in decent shape.

if its messed up in one area sand it down to the bare fiberglass or primer. then hit that spot with primer.
and resand the new primer just a bit. and its good to go.

use about 400-500 grit and wetsand until you get 100% of the shine from the old paint gone. and its good for taking new paint. thats all we do at the bodyshop.

What the hell is paint? I just use it with the white primer like I got it from the manufacturer! No bling-bling here!

I dig your style! I might do that next time around instead of being 1 of 67,943 blue Yamaha's.

I do have to admit though, primer is a little more difficult to clean than actual paint. Maybe I should actually paint it white?!
