starting out ....help! lol
ok, i decided i didnt want to take my mint 04 1000rr with a 7000 loan on it and turn it into a full track bike. I sold the bike and am now looking for a salvaged/crashed 600 (either a r6 or 600rr) to build into a race bike/track bike. any suggestions on price or if this is a good way to go? you guys are great help, thanks again for helping someone new break into the track life

I would just buy a built one if that's all you're going to do anyway...there are plenty available..pre '06 R6's for probably under $5k. Race prepped is a lot different than track prepped...track prepped is $5 of painters tape. race prepped is a couple thousand $'s of goods for rider and bike.
lots of people will probably give you the SV suggestion...just ignore them! :-)
good luck and have fun

check out the wera13x forums.. they have a HUGE amount of bikes for sale, most are race prepped. You can get a really good starter bike for around 3k if you look hard enough. http://forums.13x.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12

I'd go for an SV, hell actually I did go for an SV myself...
and buying a crashed bike to build into a track bike will get monsterously expensive FAST, especially if you want it to actually be competitive in the 600 class, which is usually a pretty crowded class with a ton of talent (f'in sandbaggers)
SVs are a LOT cheaper and don't cost much at all to be competitive plus the grids are usually smaller so you won't have to go through the entire first lap 4 wide into every corner

Reason #2,617 to start racing on a lightweight: at NHIS, they affectionately call the Novice 600 class "The Meatgrinder".

that's everywhere!
it's because anyone can scrape up $3k to buy an old 600 and be a 'racer'.....until the first turn of the race when they crap their pants, wreck themselves into others, go home, tell everyone they high-sided going 100mph trying to pass for the lead, put their uberstealth license plate back on (mounted vertically on the swingarm), and go cruising the strip doing wheelies the next friday night!
*I'm not saying that's you...I was just explaining one of the reasons for 600's being the 'meatgrinder' class. There are a lot of wrecks...sometimes it takes three restarts to get past turn one.

I'm not bashing novices, I am a novice
its more the sheer number of new racers in one race that causes the issues, with such large grids in the 600 classes you'll be going into T1 at full speed 3 or 4 wide so trust is kinda a big deal and new racers tend to be spooked easily in those situations which can cause some major major problems. Plus most of the wannabe Rossis tend to go straight to the 600 class
in a smaller class like LWT there usually aren't but 10-20 novices, while the 600 class will often have 4-5 times that
