never heard of them ... chances are they will warm the tire just fine though.

most of the knockoffs are fairly similar to the good brands from what I've seen. Main issue is how long they will last. I ran a set of tomahawks for a while before they burned through the lining completely. I bought a set of chicken hawks, sent my tomahawks to tomahawk and they sent me a brand new pair that I sold to pay for the chicken hawks

Just be careful with the knock-off brands. I've seen heating element literally cook tires because they either got too hot or weren't able to transfer the heat correctly. The BMP warmers look to be on the cheaper side but without actually seeing them who's to say.

Not all tires perform at the same temp either. For example, Pirelli use to (not sure now) have an optimal operating temp of around 160 degrees where Dunlop were closer to 200. And if I'm not mistaken I think some Michelins vary front to rear on optimal temps.

Do the research. The last thing you wanna do is cook a set of tires cuz of the warmers.

Why spend all the money on tire warmers when you can just take it easy the first few laps?

This is a serious question, I'm sure there is a good answer, I just don't know why.

Anwser is simple really. Cold tearing while warming shortens the life of the tire. Escessive heatcycles cause a tire to loose grip before they are worn out completely. Both of these facts cost you money because you are not getting optimal tire life from your expensive race tires. A set of tire warmers will pay for themselves with the extended tire life you will enjoy. Take into account you will never fall because of cold tires and the warmers become an essential track riders tool. We carry the Chicken Hawk line of warmers and also have a private label warmer (made by the largest tire warmer company in the US hint hint)

I know you will, but can't you take it easy for two laps before you start the race to warm your tires?

There is a warm-up lap. Some people do fine without warmers.

before i got warmers, or if i don't have a chance to put them on, i'd go pretty hard while straight up & down on the warm-up lap... full throttle through the gears & hard on the brakes when possible while still being safe about it.

After that I'd launch as hard as i could like usual, brake for turn 1 as much as you usually do when you're in a pack of riders, and go at about 85-90% for a lap and gradually turn it up to 100% over the first two laps.

Yes, my tires showed a little evidence of cold tearing, but nothing major and this technique works fine for me. If you're on a 600ss, you're gonan be going through tires pretty quickly anyway, so cold tearing shouldn't be that big of a problem.

Tire warmers are 100% not necessary to be a relatively successful club racer.

Well that's good to know. I was actually thinking of getting a 600 a riding it on the track.

yeh, if you're gonna start racing, in MOST cases (not all) you're better starting off in the lightweight categories. SV650, RS250, FZR400, EX500 etc etc etc.

I just posted in another thread that a buddy of mine started racing on his 600RR... after a whole season he said "man, If i had to do it all over again i woulda started on an EX500 or somethin like you did"
