and stoner got back in front of him. That did not make or break the race for hayden. Just something to complain about.

It looked to me like the pass was made before the station but camera angles can be deceiving.

it is not something to complain about.............
it has to do with the rules being evenly enforced, if rossi bennefitted because another rider rode with the yellow flag in play and he didnt then he should be penalized for that just as nicky should if the situation was reversed. after all we will only know when the last race is run and the championship is decieded as to whether the couple of points mattered or not.

The question is weather it was a legal pass. Nothing to do with rules being evenly enforced. From the angle I saw on TV I can't say weather the pass was legal or not.
Remeber a couple of years ago when Rossi made an Illegal pass at Phillip Island and was penalized 10 seconds? He checked out and won by 12.

Stoner didn't see the flag either, it's not like he slowed down and Rossi blew by. What difference did it make for Hayden? If he had the pace on Rossi he had plenty of opportunities to pass him.
Really, even if he broke the rule this would be an absolutely silly way to potentially decide the championship. Rossi has had enough bad luck this season. Hayden is complaining because he's seeing it slip away and hasn't been able to do anything.

^ Hit the nail right on the head....
and yeah Hayden..... Not fair WAH WAH WAH! I hope Rossi wins it all... would be awsome if someone wiped out right into nicky and Rossi wins the race. He would be in the lead by 4. It would be a real heads up battle then and no way hayden would win for sure.

Once I heard that Stoner didn't see the flag either then I was less concerned about this. If Stoner had been aware of the flag and eased up on whoever he was behind at the time (can't remember who but he was right on someone else's tail) it would be more of an issue. Of course, from the angle you see on TV, to say Stoner "re-passed" Rossi is not quite the case...it looked more like he tried to re-pass.
While Nicky was complaining about it right after the race, it does sound like he hasn't made such of a beef about it. What I really find interesting is how many people seem to suddenly be turning on Hayden since he has been off for a few races. Never mind that he ran something like 9 straight races with podiums. The minute he starts to struggle people start acting like he doesn't deserve it. Things have mostly gone Hayden's way this season and sure he is lucky for that, but he is still among some of the top riders out there. He has also had to test a bunch of different chasis (how do you spell that plural?) and had some clutch problems which has affected his starts. All excuses aside I am rooting for him to EARN his title by beating Rossi flat out in the last few races. (That doesn't mean I think he is a better rider than Rossi, just that I hope he proves me and others differently)

to recap: "On lap 18 there was controversy as Rossi sped passed Stoner under a waving yellow flag following an incident involving Carlos Checa (Yamaha). Rossi retained his position into the next corner and gained precious time on Hayden. The Race Direction later ruled no further action should be taken as it was deemed Stoner had momentarily re-passed Rossi"
however, here's what Nicky had to say afterwards:
"from soup, julian ryders notes:
Quote:
After the race it emerged that Race Direction were looking at an incident said to involve Rossi overtaking Stoner under a yellow flag. It happened towards the end of the race when Hayden was shadowing Rossi.
Nicky says he saw the flag, Stoner doesn't remember seeing anything and Rossi obviously didn't see it. Most people wearing a Honda or HRC shirt regarded it as an open-and-shut case; Race Direction didn't see it that way. Honda are still seething, but Nicky refuses to complain. He must have thought that Rossi would be demoted in the order and it did take him a lap or two to get past Stoner. Actually, Nicky got right up behind Stoner, hoping Rossi would realize his mistake and make room for Casey to go back through and intending to take advantage himself.
Nicky's view is simple: 'Rossi beat me on the track, he didn't overtake me under a yellow flag.' He still leads the Championship, but it's Rossi behind him now. Nicky is far more concerned about why he still hasn't got a clutch that will let him do a race start than he is about any yellow flag.
|
And here's a post a buddy of mine from another forum that i thought you guys would be interested in seeing.
Quote:
I've been thinking about the mathematics involved in this and how Rossi and Hayden have to finish each race to win the title. It's alot closer than i had though, at first.
If Rossi can sweep all three remaining races, Hayden would need to finish a minimum of second once and third the other two times, or better.
If Rossi finishes First twice and second once, Hayden needs three thirds, or better, or one fourth, one third and one second.
I figured out pretty much 4 scenarios like this and basically if one of them crashes and the other one inishes each race, they will win it, provided melandri, capirossi, and pedrosa don't factor in.
Gonna be a nailbiter!

I don't really understand why Hayden gets shit either. He has been the most consistant rider this year (by far i think) and consistancy wins championships. it just so happens that rossi is the most talented rider in the grid and has been for a very long time. No one doubts rossi's ability.. im pretty sure of that.
i have been a fan of N hayden since he joined Motogp and will continue to root on him. His riding style is awesome and very entertaining to watch.

I guess its not cool to be pro american anymore........
hey guys I really like and respect Rossi, he is the greatest ever, but maybe he is not the best rider this year, Maybe Nicky is the rider this year and we should support him, or should we bash on americans like the rest of the world.

Why aren't you riding a Buell, freedom hater
Rossi doesn't ride for Al Qaeda, and he has more talent/charisma than anyone. Nobody should feel guilty rooting for him.

I'll bash on the american :twofinges Hayden should not win the championship. Go Rossi! All the Italians are awsome! Capirossi, Melandri and Rossi how can you not root for them? They love it!

the issue of not seeing the flag is moot. whether it was seen or not it was there. it is the riders responsibility to see it.
the rule clearly states that when a yellow flag is shown a rider can not pass until a green flag is displayed. a rider who passes under a yellow must raise his hand and give the position back to the rider that was passed.
Rossi never acknowledged to Stoner that he passed under the yellow and never gave the position back to Stoner. stoner may have pulled even but that is not the same as giving the position back. again, him seeing the flag is moot. it was there and that is his responsibility.
before anyone says, "well, if he did that Hayden would have passed him too.", thats too damn bad. that is the consequence of his actions.
all of the discussion is a moot point in my book. if the championship comes down to a few points (and it will) the naysayers will say Rossi won it unfairly when the fact is Hayden has been letting the championship slip out of his fingers all year long. its been his championship to lose and a few points aren't really going to make a difference and aren't going to get him re-signed with HRC without a #1 on his plate.
