Can I get some expert opinions here... 2002 Kawasaki Ninja 250 vs. a 2001 Mustang GT convertible - bone stock and automatic in something standard like the quarter. This guy wants to bet me 500 ,, and if you guys think he has the edge with that piece of shit mustang,, is there anything I could do - besides go buy a hayubusa - and semi-cheap to ensure a victory??
I would not bet. The rider of the 250 would have to be very to in order to get a good launch. It is harder to launch a bike than a car. The times posted are corrected for optimal weather conditions with an experienced rider.
This isn't a 0-60 race, it's a 1/4 mile race. 0-60 times tell you very little about 1/4 mile times.
You are pretty evenly matched. Depends on how much wheel time he has.
Go practice drag racing - if you are the better driver, you can win.
OTOH, if he is doing something like spraying nitrous, then you will get your ass kicked. My guess is he has had some experience running the 250 and has beaten them in the past, OR he is spraying.
auto mustangs are alot slower then their standard counterparts unlike in the camaro ford still hasn't found away to build a good auto transmission
but be carefull when i had my z28 that was pretty modded nitrous gears open headers stall converter drag slicks and other stuff 250's were just to easy all though even with all that money invested a 600 sportbike would still walk me all day long
ninjas quick on the jump but has a flat spot on the high end........id race it, if the stang was standard

i have an 01 mustang gt conv. w/ a manual tranny w/ only minor things done to mine and i beat a 250 pretty badly but also i can beat an auto gt pretty badly too but u might have a chance against it but u might wanna make sure he is spraying like everyone else said.
Thanks for all the input guys... is it all clutchless shifting in this? just matching the rpms --- that's where, im sure, the practice comes in. And I'm sure this guy isn't spraying. Just a punk acquaintance of mine that thinks he's a bad ass cause he got this new car, which really isn't fast to begin with.
Clutchless upshifting is easy. Just load the shifter a little bit, let off the gas ever so slightly, and push the shifter up - it should go right into the next gear. The higher gears are easier to do, I usually use it once I'm into 2nd gear.
