Hey all, I want to go do my first track day in a month or so. I was wondering if I should do the New Racer School??? I have no expierience on a track just street riding and I raced motorcross for years, im sure the same type of rules apply. Just kind of nervous getting out there with all the expierienced riders.
Anyone know of some schools or have information for stuff like this in SO CAL??? Any info I should know.....

Just be aware that racer LICENSING schools are very basic, they are not really for teaching you how to go fast on a track. There are schools like the Star school mentioned that actually focus on improving your ability, even some track day org's offer training/schooling during the day, sometimes for an extra cost.

What you just read is my opinion and is based on my experiences and the info I have acquired during my life, it's my interpretation and isn't written in stone. Yes, I post long responses regularly because I like to fully explain my views. Don't like it or agree with what I have to say? Then don't read it or respond to it! Respond like an immature idiot to posts of mine and I will just ignore you. Have a nice day.
Im actually going to take the licensing one in a few weeks...you get a nice insurance break, and lord knows I need it...haha..I really want to get into racing though. I checked out the Star School....thats exactly what Im looking for. I want to become as knowledgeable as possible.

Thanks alot.
I think your confusing a racer licensing school with the MSF course as far as the insurance discount goes? You do have to take a racer licensing school to get your racing license, but some riding improvement schools like the Shwantz school at Road Atlanta qualify you for your license as well.

By licensing I mean the Saftey Course school, rather then taking the test @ the DMV you take the school and they give you your Motorcycle License and since its a safety course you also get an insurance break. I know this one has nothing to do with racing.
I want to get into racing as well.....Been looking into a few schools and it looks like I will end up going with Fast Track Riders. They are local and seem to be pretty well known. I didnt know you needed a license to race as well...I will have to look into that.

If it were me going back knowing what (little) I know now, I would go do a few track days first. MTC is probably the best group I've experienced (also see my post on this thread). As far as I know, they are exclusively at Willow Springs.
Try to do a two-day session with the first day being one of their "Team Sheriff / Chatterbox" days. When you're comfortable, try to follow Peter or Paul around the track. Let them show you the lines and breaking points. Then ask them to follow you and critique you. Try to improve a little bit each lap. Keep the front wheel down, but get a good drive onto the straight. Talk to Red. Try not to crash before Peter does. Make friends; they're great folks.
Then do another two-day-er and see if you can improve a little bit more.
Then you'll be in an excellent position to make the most of any school you attend. You can focus more on subtleties instead of the basics.
Just my $0.02.

I would recommend a track school like California Superbike School, Star School, Spencer's school and Schwantz's school.
The racing organization schools usually teach you the basics about how racing works within the organization's rules. Not an individual instruction school.
